Racing Tip: Sovereign Debt To Repay Punters' Faith At The Curragh
Sovereign Debt To Repay Punters’ Faith At The Curragh
Having put this selection up on Twitter at 9/2 last night, it’s pleasing to see that money has come for Sovereign Debt who is now no bigger than 3/1 with Ladbrokes for today’s Group 3 Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes at The Curragh.
The David Nicholls-trained grey gelding missed all of 2014 after finishing second to Highland Colori at Doncaster, but has returned in good heart to find the frame on all four starts this term. The 6-year-old put in a cracking effort on his reappearance in February to almost reel in Mindurownbusiness over 8f at Lingfield and didn’t get the breaks when third over a furlong less back at the same venue a week later. Sovereign Debt then beat Chookie Royale over 7f at Wolverhampton in March under today’s jockey, with Joe Fanning producing his mount to steel the lead at the finish, prior to putting in another cracking effort in defeat when unable to get a clear run to finish a 1/4 length second to Grey Mirage back over 8f at Lingfield in the All-Weather Championships on Good Friday.
Reunited with jockey Joe Fanning, Sovereign Debt can benefit from being drawn on the stands’ side at the Curragh, which can often be the place to be when there is give in the ground and another bold bid is expected from this consistent performer.
Due Diligence looks the main threat after running Slade Power close at Ascot on the back of a double at Naas early last summer, while Sruthan won this race last year and is entitled to respect, though this looks a more competitive renewal.
