Racing Tip: Stick With Royale Knight In bet365 Gold Cup
Stick With Royale Knight In bet365 Gold Cup
Having selected the Dr Richard Newland-trained Royale Knight as our long-range Crabbie’s Grand National tip at 40-1 on the day the weights were revealed we looked to be sitting on a decent bet during the last mile of the world’s most famous steeplechase as the nine-year-old, after jumping and travelling well, started to make his challenge for glory, and although the son of King’s Theatre could not match strides with the likes of Many Clouds over the last couple of fences, finishing sixth beaten fifteen lengths was a tremendous effort and the horse is great value at bet365 to bounce back with 20-1 odds quoted by the sponsor ( going 5 places ) in tomorrow’s bet365 Gold Cup at 3.50 Sandown.
Despite having a hard race at Aintree two weeks ago Royale Knight has had a fairly light campaign and this will be only the horse’s third start over fences this season, the first being a comprehensive victory in Sedgefield’s Durham National last October, a race run over a similar distance to Sandown’s historic handicap chase. With just 10st 2lb to carry the mount of Brendan Powell still looks well enough handicapped off 139 and with the ground and distance ideal should go close providing the National has not left it’s mark.
With 19 rivals to face there are dangers aplenty, the most significant being top hunter chaser Paint The Clouds who, providing the ground does not ease too much, looks on a handy 10st for trainer Warren Greatrex and jockey Sam Waley-Cohen. 2013 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth would be some bet if returning to his best but has failed to fire this season while Le Reve is capable of providing Leighton Aspel with yet another major handicap following his second Grand National victory recently as the horse has been trained with this race in mind for some time.
