Tiger Can Return To Form At Doncaster
A disappointing run at Haydock earlier this month will see the Jim Goldie-trained Tiger Jim go off at a decent price for Doncaster’s Racing Post / SIS Betting Shop Manager Handicap at 3.10pm on Friday afternoon but it is worth giving the mount of Jack Garritty another chance as the five-year-old had previously been the model of consistency and is sure to be better suited by the drying conditions on the course.
Sent off a strongly fancied 9-2 favourite at the Lancashire venue following a strongly finishing second in the William Hill Ayr Bronze Cup, form which puts the Tiger Hill gelding bang in the mix for the six furlong contest off what still looks a reasonable mark of 86. A comfortable winner on the course in August 2014 Tiger Jim has since ran with credit on several occasions on Town Moor including when looking a little unlucky to finish a close third behind Meshardal and Love Island back in May after having to be switched approaching the final furlong.
The horse got off the mark for the season when an easy winner over Friday’s trip at Ayr at the beginning of June before getting bogged-down in the soft ground when a well-backed 4-1 chance for the valuable John Smith’s Scottish Stewards’ Cup at Hamilton the following week and once again may have found conditions against him at Haydock on his most recent start.
The 18-1 available with Betway looks excellent value if Tiger Jim can run up to anything like his best on this occasion. The in-form Shipyard is attempting to land a hat-trick following victories at Ripon and Ascot and is sure to go well while at the bottom of the weights the well treated Mass Rally is capable of going close at a big price.
