Un De Sceaux 3-1 (With A Run) For Champion Chase
The Willie Mullins-trained Un De Sceaux is now a general 4-5 chance to win the Racing Post Arkle on the opening day of the 2015 Cheltenham Festival but speculation continues to mount that the impressive novice could be supplemented for the more prestigious Queen Mother Champion Chase on the Wednesday for which sponsor Betway have introduced the seven-year-old into the betting at 3-1 with a run.
Champion jockey Tony McCoy became the latest voice to announce his admiration for the winner of last Sunday’s Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown, having finished a distant third to Ruby Walsh’s mount on Gilgamboa, saying: “He probably only has to get round to win the Arkle and he might even win the Champion Chase if he ran in it.
“He didn’t go as fast as I thought ( at Leopardstown ) but from the back of the second-last he sprinted like a proper Champion Chase horse. I was very impressed with him. He seemed to settle better and he seemed to go through the second half of the race much quicker than he normally does.”
While the Arkle seems the most likely target for Un De Sceaux at the moment there is still just short of six weeks to go before the Festival gets underway and with doubts still surrounding both Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy, the two ante-post market leaders for the Championship contest, connections of the son of Denham Red have plenty to mull over in the weeks ahead. Ante-post action on the Racing Post Arkle over the last couple of days has revolved around our 20-1 each-way selection Vibrato Voltat who is now a top price 14-1 but as short as 10-1 with Betfred.
