Waila Worthy Favourite For 3.40 Pontefract
3.40 Pontefract is the Totepool Pontefract Castle Stakes and Waila is tipped to land the 1 mile 4 furlong listed race.
Trainer Sir Michael Stoute ended Royal Ascot tied for top trainer with John Gosden who each had 4 wins, while jockey Ryan Moore rode the most winners over the five day meeting and the pair partner up again today with Waila. Recommended on our twitter feed this morning at 2/1, the four-year-old filly is now available at no bigger than 6/4 with Coral, a firm which pledges to refund losing stakes as a free bet up to up to £25 if your horse is 2nd, beaten by a head or less.
Lightly raced as a three-year-old, Waila still managed to win twice from four races last season including a victory over subsequent Ribblesdale Stakes winner Riposte at Sandown, before decimating her rivals by 10 lengths in a listed Newmarket event over today’s distance. The selection was equipped with a hood that day, which was re-fitted for her seasonal reappearance at Goodwood where she put in a commendable run for fourth and the same headgear is retained today.
Freedom’s Light finished ahead of the selection at Goodwood and looks to be the main danger to her chances today, but John Gosden’s filly won’t have the same fitness advantage on this occasion and Waila is tipped to reverse those placings and get a head in front with the Goodwood run under her belt.
