Back Special Wells At 3.35 Carlisle

Betting for the Class 4 Connolly’s Red Mills Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at 3.35 Carlisle is fiercely competitive, but 11/4 chance with Coral (money back on fallers) Special Wells has soom good form in the book and gets the vote on the back of a game effort when last seen.

The Alflora gelding took his time to get a head in front, but after posting some reasonable enough efforts in defeat, surged up the run-in to beat a notable opponent in Streets Of Newyork at Wetherby in December. The form of that race worked out extremely well for our selection, with the runner-up winning two of three subsequent races and was unlucky to be nabbed late on for second in the Scottish County Hurdle last month.

Special Wells didn’t quite improve as expected when fourth of fourteen at Doncaster in January, but resumed progress with a game effort at Bangor just under three weeks ago. Sue Smith’s 6-year-old drew clear of the chasing pack with a well treated winner that day and a 6lb rise shouldn’t pose the horse too many problems today with jockey Jonathan England’s 3lb claim.

Central Flame could be one to watch out for if belatedly transferring point to point form to rules races, while Film Director may improve now handicapping and Master Dee seeks a hat-trick, though concedes weight all round. Fly Home Harry perhaps has the most to find on what he’s shown to date, but while none can be entirely ruled out, Special Wells looks by far the most solid option.
