Racing Tip: Zand Primed To Hit Form In Chelmsford Feature
Zand Primed To Hit Form In Chelmsford Feature
Chelmsford City’s all-weather card provides the best racing on Wednesday afternoon with the feature race coming at 3.00pm in the shape of the £50k Breeders’ Cup Only On At The Races Handicap in which a quality field of 15 have been declared for the one mile two furlong contest headed by top weight Niceofyoutotellme who will find this easier than the Group 3 company he has been taking on for most of the season.
The powerful Godolphin operation hold a strong hand courtesy of the three-year-old’s Festive Fare and Khusoosy with the latter expected to prove the better of the pair for trainer Saeed bin Suroor and 3lb claiming jockey Kevin Stott while Sir Mark Prescott’s Aleator looks interesting at the foot of the handicap, but it is the Mark Johnston runner Zand who makes plenty of appeal at the 10-1 available with several bookmakers.
The five-year-old son of Zamindar joined the trainer earlier this year after showing some decent form on the continent and was well fancied to get off the mark in this country when going off a well-backed 10-1 chance for the competitive Sky Bet First Race Special Stakes at Glorious Goodwood off a mark of 102 but managed to beat only one horse home and fared little better next time when last of 11 in a Haydock handicap.
With those two runs under his belt Zand showed that form to be all wrong when going down by less than two lengths in fifth place in Newbury’s valuable Dubai Duty Free Handicap last month and followed that up with a close third on Wolverhampton’s all-weather surface most recently. The mount of Franny Norton will be racing off a 9lb lower mark than when having his first run for his new stable and now that the horse is getting used to his new environment can finally show his true colours for connections.
