We’re down to the last four in Sheffield.
We witnessed the implosion of the “Rocket” at the hands of the “Belgian Bullet” in the quarter-finals as the reigning world champion fell at the third hurdle of this year’s tournament, losing an astonishing seven frames on the spin.
Selby was victorious in the battle of the four-time winners against John Higgins and 20-year-old sensation Si Jiahui edged out Anthony McGill in a 25-frame thriller.
The final quartet is made up by Mark Allen who is continuing his fine winning season by reaching his second Crucible semi-final.
Let’s take a closer look at the semi-final action:
Luca Brecel 17-11 or 17-12 vs Si Jiahui at 9/1 with bet365*
Forgive us for trampling on the Si fairytale in Sheffield, but we’re fully expecting the “Belgian Bullet” to fire himself into a maiden Crucible final.
Brecel’s rapid break-building and fearless long potting saw him sweep aside Ronnie O’Sullivan as if he was an amateur, and we’re not sure Si will survive a similar onslaught.
The obvious flaw in Si’s game is his safety play, lacking the tactical nous to tie his opponent up when the openings on the reds aren’t available.
Brecel should be able to capitalise on this and receive the majority of the openings on the table.
17-11 or 17-12 looks about right as Si runs out of steam, but the youngster will come again.

Mark Selby to beat Mark Allen at 8/15 with bet365*
We’re picking experience over outright form here in a tantalising battle of the Marks.
Selby ground down the “Wizard of Wishaw” in the quarter-finals and is just two wins away from winning his fifth world crown.
Allen has performed well throughout the 2022-23 season but silly mistakes are creeping into his game under the Crucible lights.
He has played two unseeded players so far (Jak Jones and Fan Zhengyi) as well as an out of form Stuart Bingham, and Selby acts as a huge step up to what he has navigated so far over the past 13 days.
Selby’s price is strong enough at 8/15 in what could be a war of attrition – one that Selby is well conditioned to fight.
