Sony Open Betting: Matt Kuchar can stop Jimmy Walker's run

The PGA Tour makes the short hop across the Hawaiian Islands to the Waialae Country Club this weekend
At 22/1 a £10 bet would return £230

Matt Kuchar (Win) 22/1

The PGA Tour makes the short hop across the Hawaiian Islands to the Waialae Country Club for the upcoming Sony Open, with Jimmy Walker looking to make it three wins in a row, at this event.

For the Sony Open, Boylesports are offering a superb ‘Money Back as a Free Bet’ promotion for all new & existing customers, if your selection finishes 2nd or 3rd, including ties!  (Applies to pre-tournament bets only, with a max refund of £50)

As Jordan Spieth elects to sit this one out, attention turns to the favourite, Jimmy Walker (14/1 with Boylesports), whose form has been disappointing of late, so here are my four picks for this event…

Matt Kuchar is a top price of 22/1 with Coral and comes with an enviable record at Waialae. Kuchar has finished in the top eight in each of the last four years and in terms of recent form, has a 14th and 2nd in his last two starts. Kuchar has been averaging -3 under a round in those four years and with a putting game that is as good as anyone at the moment, he has a great chance to end Jimmy Walker’s run.

Brandt Snedeker is available at 25/1 (Betfred) for the title and comes off the back of a third place last week. Overall Snedeker played well, ranking in the top three for par 3 and 4 scoring, as well as putting.  If “Sneds” can maintain this form, he’ll be in with a shout here. There is a note of caution however, he has not appeared at Waialae for some seven years, so course rustiness is a possibility, so a top five / each-way bet is a better option.

Marc Leishman is around 35/1 (with Totesport) for the win, with the Australian having fond memories of the course, thanks to two top tens in his last three visits. An eleventh place and a victory in his last three events, show plenty of form, although like Snedeker, Leishman will be a bit rusty, having not played since early December. A top ten finish at 4/1 (with Stan James) looks a good pick here.

Our last choice is outsider Jerry Kelly, who is an unlikely 80/1 to win outright, but with a more modest 4/1 for a top twenty finish available with Bet365. Kelly won the event fourteen years ago, and has a total of 10 top tens finishes to his name, including a sixth and third in the last couple of years. A top twenty is very plausible.

Recommended bets:

  • Matt Kuchar (Win) 22/1 Coral

  • Brandt Snedeker (Each way) 25/1 Betfred

  • Marc Leishman (Top 10) 4/1 Totesport

  • Jerry Kelly (Top 20) 4/1 Bet365
