Tip For The St James’s Palace Stakes At Royal Ascot: Us Navy Flag To Provide Trainer Aidan O’brien With His Eighth Victory In The St James’ Palace Stakes
June 19, 2018
Many outstanding milers have won Royal Ascot’s Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes in recent years including Henrythenavigator, Dawn Approach, Kingman and the great Frankel. But the 2018 renewal looks a below-par renewal in which the market is headed by a horse who’s biggest win to date came in a Sandown Listed race last month.
While the John Gosden-trained Without Parole is unbeaten in three starts and possesses plenty of potential whether the son of 2011 winner Frankel deserves to be as short as 9-4 for his first attempt at Group 1 company is debatable, and the mount of Frankie Dettori looks sure to prove a drifter in the betting on the day of the race.

Reckons Tip Two Win should be "2-1 favourite" for the St James's Palace… #RoyalAscot 🤔

Qipco 2000 Guineas runner-up Tip Two Win is the form horse of the race with Newmarket victor Saxon Warrior heading to the Irish Derby next while Romanised enters calculations based on the son of Holy Roman Emperor’s win in the Irish version as an unconsidered 25-1 chance. There appeared to be no fluke about the two and a quarter length victory of Shane Foley’s mount at the Curragh but the value may lie with the runner-up US Navy Flag who will attempt to give AidanO’Brien an eighth success in the one mile contest, a feat unlikely to be matched for some time.

The son of War Front took his time to show what he is capable of as a juvenile, only recording a maiden victory in his first seven starts before hitting top gear to claim Group 1 wins at Newmarket in the Middle Park Stakes and Dewhurst Stakes in the Autumn. The mount of Ryan Moore has progressed with each of his three runs this year and with more restraining tactics can overturn the Curragh form for the all-conquering Ballydoyle stable. It would be no surprise to see stablemate Gustav Klimt prove the main danger.
