We haven’t seen the former bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey since she lost her title and unbeaten run to Holly Holm at UFC 194 in Melbourne.

A loss which hit her very hard, her belt has changed hands three times and now on a return to the octagon at UFC 207 in Las Vegas on December 30th sees her challenge for the title against current champion Amanda Nunes.  Bookmakers make Rousey the 8/11 favourite, with Nunes the slight outsider at 11/10 in a fascinating match-up in store.

UFC 207: Inside The Octagon – Amanda Nunes vs Ronda Rousey

Nunes is an animal. In her last fight she totally demolished Miesha Tate – who submitted Holm to win the bantamweight belt – inside one round. She is a legitimate BJJ black belt and her striking skills have improved enormously at her current gym. But Rousey is a force of nature and is on a hell bent mission to re-establish herself as the star of the women’s MMA world.

It is hard to know exactly where she is emotionally, given in particular the fact she’s refusing to do any media interviews during fight week. Many think it was over-emotion which caused her to lose the belt in the first place, so hopefully her efforts and thoughts are better placed this time around.

Ronda Rousey’s chief weapon is her ability to take the fight to the ground then impose her will there. She is lethal at securing arm bars out of nowhere against top class grapplers. She can be expected to exercise a bit more patience in her execution this time, and perhaps secure a submission win to get her title back.

In the co-main event Dominick Cruz defends his men’s bantamweight belt against against up and comer Cody Garbrandt, who believes he is the man to dethrone the legendary Cruz, who has looked better than ever.

Garbrandt is a talented, hungry knockout artist though, and he has five rounds in which to find the chin of Cruz. If he can land a big shot, the weight of momentum can swing in the favour of the challenger.

No matter what happens, it should be an excellent UFC event. So, grab some free bets and enjoy!
