Home hope Amanda Nunes defends crown against Raquel Pennington in Brazil at UFC 224

UFC 224 rolls into Brazil this weekend as home favourite and women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes (15-4) defends her crown against Raquel Pennington (9-5) in the main event.

At the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Nunes is aiming to make a third successful UFC women’s bantamweight title defence against latest challenger Pennington.

The Brazilian clinched her current belt back in July 2016 when she submitted Miesha Tate at UFC 200, before ending Ronda Rousey’s career with a first-round knockout that following December.

Nunes then overcame Valentina Shevchenko by decision for the second time in her career, bringing her winning streak to six fights since 2015.

‘The Lioness’ is regarded as the odds-on 1/7 favourite with Paddy Power for another successful defence this weekend on home soil, while Pennington is 9/2 to cause a huge upset in her title bid.

The reigning and defending title holder boasts more wins in the division than any other fighter and is a promising 13/10 with Betfair to KO her latest challenger in front of her passionate home supporters.

Pennington is currently on a four-bout winning run, but has not featured since overcoming Tate back in November 2016. The 29-year-old is 14/1 with Paddy Power to become world champion by knocking out Nunes.

The last three triumphs for Pennington have come via the judges’ scorecards and she is 15/2 with Ladbrokes to make it four on the bounce this weekend.

Although, on home territory, Nunes looks more than capable of adding to her impressive title reign and she will enter the octagon at 9/4 with Bet365 to end the night early by knocking out her challenger in the opening round.

Also on the UFC 224 card, middleweight contenders Ronaldo Souza (25-5) and Kelvin Gastelum (14-3) will collide, while Brazilian legends Vitor Belfort (26-13) and Lyoto Machida (23-8) meet for a fascinating tussle in Rio de Janeiro.

Amanda Nunes is 13/10 to win by KO with Betfair.
