Werdum and Volkov collide for heavyweight battle in UFC London main event
Fabricio Werdum (23-7-1) and Alexander Volkov (29-6) will collide this weekend in the main event of a highly awaited UFC London at the O2 Arena.
In the English capital show’s headliner, both ranked heavyweights contenders are aiming to move a step closer towards a UFC title shot in the near future.
As they prepare to face off in the octagon on UK soil on Saturday night, former heavyweight title holder Werdum is ranked at number three in the world and is the odds-on 4/9 favourite with Betway.
Meanwhile, his Russian opponent is currently residing in eighth position, and a triumph here will undoubtedly push the victor towards the front of the queue for a shot at the belt later in 2018. He is seen as the 7/4 outsider with Betfred to prevail.
There is also plenty of British interest on the capital card for those fight fans in attendance, with Jimi Manuwa, Stevie Ray, Mark Godbeer, Leon Edwards and Paul Craig all featuring in the London cage.
But it’s the heavyweight match-up between Werdum and Volkov that will close the show, as the imposing duo collide in a bout that not many expected to see take centre stage but one that should deliver.

Werdum and Volkov lock horns for potential UFC title shot in 2018
At the O2 Arena, both Werdum and Volkov are in pursuit of a decisive win which will set them up for the latter part of the year, with a UFC heavyweight title crack perhaps then on the horizon.
The division is currently reigned by the dominant Stipe Miocic, who has successfully defended his strap a record three times since becoming champion.
After defeating Cain Velasquez to claim the heavyweight crown, it was actually Werdum who lost it to Miocic in May 2016 in what was his own maiden defence.
The experienced Brazilian has since overcome all of Travis Browne, Walt Harris and Marcin Tybura, but was outpointed by Alistair Overeem in July last year.
Werdum will enter the octagon this weekend at 21/10 with Ladbrokes to secure a trademark submission success over his latest challenger in London.
The now 40-year-old is also 4/1 with Paddy Power to earn a decision victory on his return to the UK.
Volkov is currently unbeaten since arriving on the UFC scene, following wins over Timothy Johnson, Roy Nelson and Stefan Struve, and he is 7/2 with Betfair to knock out Werdum.
The much younger 29-year-old is regarded at 5/1 with Paddy Power to fight his way to a points success , as he targets a shot at the UFC heavyweight title this year.
Volkov has proven he is a hugely dangerous striker, in light of that stoppage success over Struve last September, but Werdum will be relentless in trying to take this encounter to the canvas.
If the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master can get Volkov to the floor and fight his own fight, then the former heavyweight champion will likely finish proceedings early and edge towards another desired shot at the UFC title.
