Weekend Racing Preview for Betfair Tingle Creek
December 02, 2016
UN DE SCEAUX to win at 15/8 Paddy Power
An early week gamble on Douvan didn’t materialise in the form of a declaration for the Betfair Tingle Creek Chase, but Willie Mullins is represented with a suitable enough deputy in the form of Un De Sceaux, who looks a fair price at 15/8 to land a timely Grade 1 race for the Irish champion trainer.
Six horses are set to go to post for this historic two mile chase, where there is £150,000 in prize money up for grabs in Sandown Park’s 3.00pm Saturday showpiece.
Gary Moore is double-handed here with quite the pair. Two time Tingle Creek winner and former Champion chaser Sire De Grugy has been somewhat in and out of form over the last couple of seasons, but the 10-year old rising eleven looked better than ever at Ascot last time out when winning a handicap in good style. We know he handles this race having won it in 2013 and 2015 and considering he comes into the contest on the back of a near-on career best run, there are plenty of reasons to think he can win the race again. At 7/2 with Coral and Betway, Sire De Grugy will have plenty of supporters.
Also representing the yard is Ar Mad, a surprise package last season but most certainly one of the best two mile novice performers around. He missed the spring festivals, but comes into this race carrying an air of confidence in this youngster’s ability to really serve it up at a course he’s already mastered at novice level. He is vying for second favouritism in the market, but both the Gary Moore runners could succumb to the quality of a rejuvenated Un De Sceaux under the expert hands of Ruby Walsh.
This 8-year old hasn’t shown his best form since winning the Clarence House Chase impressively at Ascot back in January, where he had Sire De Grugy comfortably held. On his day, Un De Sceaux has the ability to grind horses into submission. It is interesting that Willie Mullins has the confidence to send this horse right into the heat of Grade 1 battle first time out. He possesses the quality to outpoint this field and put some below par recent runs behind him.
