Arsenal vs Bayern Munich betting tips

On so many occasions, Arsenal’s Champions League dreams have been shattered by Bayern Munich, with the last three encounters between the pair ended in 5-1 routs in favour of the Bavarians.

This year though looks set to be different, with the Gunners kicking off as firm favourites to advance.

Over the weekend, Mikel Arteta’s team reclaimed top spot in the Premier League, swatting aside Brighton 3-0 Saturday night, with Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard the scorers in Sussex.

So, since New Year’s Day, Arsenal have won ten of 11 Premier League fixtures, their sole dropped points coming in that hard-earned goalless draw at Manchester City.

Meanwhile, it’s worth remembering, this is the Gunners’ first Champions League campaign since 2016/17, their last ending with that humiliating 10-2 aggregate hammering at the hands of Bayern.

This time round, they’ve won all four home games, scoring 13 goals and conceding zero, albeit they required a penalty shootout to overcome Porto in the round of 16, after both legs were won 1-0 by the hosts.

Martin Ødegaard, Havertz, Saka and Declan Rice all converted from 12 yards, while David Raya made two stupendous saves, the second of which ensured Arsenal’s progression to the quarter-finals of this competition for the first time since 2010.

So now, can they overcome the side who’ve so often proved to be their nemesis?

Well, Bayern Munich don’t travel to North London in particularly confident mood, suffering back-to-back Bundesliga defeats, results that leave them 16 points adrift Bayer Leverkusen, meaning their 11-year strangle hold over the Meisterschale could come to an end as soon as this weekend.

On Easter weekend, die Roten were beaten 2-0 by Borussia Dortmund, their first home der Klassiker defeat for a decade, before losing 3-2 to minnows Heidenheim on Saturday, despite being 2-0 up at half time.

The announcement that Thomas Tuchel will be leaving at the end of the season hasn’t had the desired effect, with this competition Bayern’s only hope of avoiding a first trophyless season since 2011/12.

In the round of 16, they lost the first leg in Rome, before ultimately swatting Lazio aside 3-0 at Allianz Arena, Harry Kane scoring twice, but will not get away with an equally underwhelming performance on the road again.

So, can Arsenal establish a possibly even unassailable lead in this first leg?

Real Madrid vs Manchester City betting tips

At the same time on Tuesday, in the eyes of many, the two best teams in Europe go head-to-head, as the last two Champions League winners clash for a place in the last four.

Two seasons ago, Real Madrid produced one of the greatest comebacks ever, with Rodrygo scoring twice in injury time, en route to winning a 14th European crown, defeating Liverpool in the final in Paris.

12 months later, Manchester City emphatically dethroned them, smashing los Blancos 4-0 at the Etihad, before picking up their very first continental title against Inter at Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadı back in June.

So now, who will prevail in the latest instalment of this trilogy?

Real Madrid come into this heavyweight clash unbeaten in 24 La Liga matches, thereby sat eight points clear at the top of the table, while they’re yet to taste defeat in this competition either.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team won six out of six in the group phase, before looking unconvincing in the last 16, leaving Leipzig 1-0 winners, before only really scrapping through courtesy of a 1-1 draw at home.

Nevertheless, having had nine days preparation time, los Merengues come into this one refreshed and full of confidence, knowing it’s vitally important that they establish a first leg advantage.

Manchester City meantime are chasing a repeat of last season’s treble, with Saturday’s 4-2 win at Crystal Palace leaving them a point below both Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League table.

In this competition, Pep Guardiola’s side have won eight out of eight so far, scoring exactly three times in every match, hammering København in the last 16 having topped their group at a canter.

However, the Sky Blues have struggled to win big games this season, failing to claim victory in any of their five encounters with Arsenal or Liverpool.

Nevertheless, with the second leg at the Etihad to come, most expect the holders to advance to the semis, making it vitally important for Real Madrid to claim victory at the Bernabéu.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Barcelona betting tips

On the other side of the draw, what an opportunity for Paris Saint-Germain to not only reach just a second-ever Champions League Final, but be crowned kings of the continent for the very first time.

This season, les Rouges-et-Bleus first came through the group of death, beating both AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund at home, before easing past Real Sociedad, winning 2-0 at home and 2-1 in San Sebastián.

Meanwhile, Luis Enrique’s team are unbeaten in 29 domestic matches, ten points clear at the top of Ligue 1, through to another Coupe de France Final and already with the Trophée des Champions in the cabinet.

Nevertheless, as is always the case with PSG, their entire existence is judged on Champions League performance and, having only gone beyond this stage twice since 1995, they’ll take nothing for granted.

As for Barcelona, they’ve dumped out les Parisiens three times in the last 11 years, prevailing on away goals in 2013, 5-1 on aggregate in 2015 before, most-memorably, producing the greatest Remontada in history in 2017.

This season, Barça have reached the quarter-finals for the first time in four seasons, overcoming Napoli in the last 16, drawing 1-1 in Naples before a 3-1 victory at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

Xavi’s team are unbeaten in nine La Liga matches, winning each of the last three without conceding, but remain eight points adrift leaders Real Madrid, making this trophy their only realistic hope of silverware.

Most would make PSG favourites to reach the semi-finals, so can the French champions claim a first leg advantage at Parc des Princes, ahead of the rematch at Montjuïc just six nights later?

Atletico Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund betting tips

Awaiting either PSG or Barça in the semi-finals will be one of these two, both of whom will see this tie as a golden opportunity to reach the last four.

Atlético Madrid were handed the toughest possible draw in the round of 16, so were underdogs to overcome Inter, especially after losing 1-0 at San Siro, before then falling further behind after half an hour at home.

However, Antoine Griezmann got them back into it mere moments later, before Memphis’ late swivel and shot levelled things up on aggregate, forcing extra time and ultimately penalties.

In truth, it wasn’t the highest-quality shootout you’ll ever see, Saúl Ñíguez’s effort was saved, but it mattered not, because Inter failed with three of their five, meaning it was los Colchoneros who advanced.

Diego Simeone’s side have not reached the Champions League semi-finals since 2017, but will be feeling quietly confident, considering they can’t face usual adversaries Real Madrid until the final.

Atleti are far from guaranteed a place in next season’s competition, currently battling to hold onto fourth place in La Liga, but believe the draw has opened up in such a way that being at Wembley on 1 June is a realistic aim.

Borussia Dortmund meanwhile have won this trophy, unlike their hosts, beating Juventus in 1997, before losing to Bayern Munich in 2013, with this the most-recent time they went further than the quarter-finals.

Just like Atleti, Edin Terzić's team are not yet sure they’ll be in the Champions League come September, slipping dow to fifth in the Bundesliga on Saturday, following a 1-0 home defeat to Stuttgart.

Nevertheless, die Schwarzgelben have saved their best performances for Europe, first topping the group of death, above PSG, A.C. Milan and Newcastle, before overcoming PSV Eindhoven 3-1 on aggregate.

The last time these two clubs met was in the group phase in 2018, with Dortmund running out 4-0 winners at Westfalenstadion, before Atleti got some semblance of revenge a fortnight later, prevailing 2-0 at home.

This season at the Metropolitano, los Colchoneros have won 19 of 22 matches in all competitions, including all four in the Champions League, making a home win likely.
