The road to the Super Bowl final starts on the second weekend of September as the 2023-24 NFL season gets underway. As is always the case, bookmakers offer dozens of markets for every imaginable outcome.
It may be wise to stick with the primary markets until the season settles down, though, and the divisional betting markets are always of interest before the season gets underway.
2023 NFL Season – Week 1 (8-12 September)
The stand-out teams last season could again be the dominant forces this term, with Super Bowl champs Kansas City Chiefs and gallant runners-up Philadelphia Eagles topping the list along with the Buffalo Bills, who had an excellent season before an under-par performance saw them eliminated by a fired-up Cincinnati Bengals team in the AFC playoffs.
The cumulative odds of the trio topping their divisions is around the 9/2 mark, and that looks more than attractive and certainly warrants a decent interest.

Divisional Winners Treble
Chiefs, Eagles and Bills to top their divisions is a 9/2 shot
At 9/2 a £10 bet would return £55
The Buffalo Bills were 13-3 in the regular season in the AFC East, and it is no great surprise to see them trading at around the 6/5 mark to top the group again. They face tough opposition from the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins, who upped their performances in 2022, but the Bills should be up to the task.
They could give away points if their defensive unit fails to come up to scratch, but the Bills are capable of racking up the points and were only bettered in that department by the Chiefs and the Eagles last season. Favourites to win their first nine games, the Bills should be flying high come mid-season and will likely be hard to catch.
Super Bowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs are the obvious choice to take the AFC West and have been priced accordingly by UK bookmakers. Phenomenal quarterback Patrick Mahomes leads the team, and it is tough to see any weaknesses in a group that proved exceptionally hard to beat in recent seasons.
At this stage, they are favourites to win just about all of their games, and while they will probably lose the odd game or two along the way (three losses last season), they should safely steamroller their way to winning the AFC West division.
The Philidalphia Eagles are a shade of odds-on to take the NFC East and 3/1 or more to take the overall NFC title, where the main challenge is likely to come from the San Francisco 49ers, who look nailed on to take the NFC West at odds of around 4/7 offered.
Including the NFC North team, the Detroit Lions, may also be prudent in multiple bets. After a very shabby start in 2022, they impressed a good deal in the second half of the season, and if they can carry that form into this season, they will be tough to beat in the division.
