Boxing Betting Tips
Here are this week's tips from our resident boxing expert, Lewis Watson.
Chris Eubank Jr v Conor Benn
History will be made inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, as Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn go toe-to-toe, looking to honour their family name.
Their fathers, Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn, fought twice in 1990 and 1993, with Eubank remaining unbeaten thanks to a win and a draw.
Three decades on the sons are due to duke it out in front of 65,000 fans, with plenty of talking points dictating the narrative of Saturday’s bout.
From Conor Benn’s failed drugs test in 2022 to Chris Eubank Jr’s struggle to make the 160-pound weight limit, there’s plenty to consider as we weigh-up the best betting tips for this middleweight clash:
Chris Eubank Jr to beat Conor Benn via KO/TKO/Disqualification
Chris Eubank Jr has had to boil himself down to the 160-pound limit — something that will undeniably affect his physicality ahead of Saturday night. The 170-pound rehydration clause is also an issue, meaning that “Next Gen” will probably enter the ring around 175 pounds.
This, compared to Benn, who will probably be around the 162-pound mark is a sizeable difference, and one that Eubank can use to his advantage.
Eubank has been in with much better operators throughout his career than Benn, and despite struggling to make the weight at this stage in his career, has been a career middleweight and knows how to operate at 160.
Benn is fast, flashy and explosive, but since failing two drugs tests in 2022 has struggled to hurt opposition even in lower weight classes.
Eubank has shown a decent chin in previous wins and losses over the likes of George Groves, Liam Smith and Billy Joe Saunders, and should be able to withstand what Benn throws his way.
Eubank’s natural power could be enough to overwhelm Benn in the opening exchanges if he gets caught, bringing back memories of when he was floored twice in the 1st round by welterweight Cedric Peynaud in 2017.
Most punches thrown – Conor Benn
Benn is an emotional fighter and it’s impossible to imagine him not coming out all guns blazing at the opening bell.
Catching Eubank cold is arguably the best route to victory for the smaller, younger man and he’s got a proven engine to throw punch after punch for three minutes flat.
Eubank doesn’t posses the most illusive defence, but still, not all of Benn’s punches will find the target.
Fight to go the Distance – NO
It’s unlikely that Eubank will want to sit behind his jab all night and play the matador to Benn’s bull.
This could well be a fire-fight with both men meeting centre-ring from the opening bell, meaning that 36 minutes of combat is pretty unlikely.
Eubank Jr has been stopped (by Liam Smith) since these two were supposed to fight back in 2022, so Benn comes into this fight knowing that Eubank can be hurt.
