Bundesliga: Freiburg v Borussia Dortmund Preview and Betting Tips

Can Freiburg throw a spanner in the works?

Freiburg will be looking to maintain their perfect start to the campaign when they welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Stade Europa-Park on Friday evening.

Christian Streich’s charges produced a coruscating display last weekend as they swept past FC Augsburg with consummate ease in a 4-0 victory.

From back to front, Freiburg were dominant, and they encapsulated how they achieved a top-six finish last term.

Meanwhile, Dortmund did something that was a bit of an anathema to them last season, as they kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen, who are likely to be in the mix for the title.

But will Dortmund slip up at Freiburg? This is probably one of the standout fixtures of the weekend, so to help you with your betting slip, we have handpicked a couple of tips for you to mull over.

Borussia Dortmund to break the spell

There are few sides that Dortmund would classify as bogey teams, but perhaps Freiburg might fall into that category at least on the road.

Dortmund have lost on their past two visits to Freiburg, and by the same scoreline (2-1). Edin Terzic’s men, when in full flow, know how to harry teams and they are very easy on the eye.

Defensively, they have needed to tighten things up at the back, and at times, they have had to learn to be a bit more street smart.

While Dortmund have enjoyed handsome wins in recent meetings at home with Freiburg, they have found things harder going on their travels against Freiburg.

Although past clashes can be an indicator as to how things might unfold, Dortmund will exorcise their demons and come away with all three points against Freiburg.

The Correct Score market usually provides good value, and we like the look of Dortmund to chalk up a 1-0 victory. Paddy Power has obliged by offering a 10/1 price on this outcome if you fancy following up on it.

Thorgan Hazard to open his account

There was something rather familiar about Dortmund’s opening-day win last weekend. Like last season, Marco Reus scored Dortmund’s first goal of the campaign against Leverkusen, and 59 of his 145 career Bundesliga goals have given his side a 1-0 lead.

But while Reus pulled the strings against Leverkusen, the likes of Thorgan Hazard were menacing, and he will ask serious questions of the Freiburg defence.

Last season, Hazard popped up with seven goals in all competitions, and he is very clever with his movements. And the Belgian midfielder could well be the difference maker this time.

If you are swayed by the Goalscorer section, then Hazard is priced at an intriguing 17/2 with William Hill to break the deadlock and score the first goal of the game.
