Someone Must Advance

After his installation as Burnley manager, Vincent Kompany has seemingly made light work of the EFL Championship and now he and his players will look to move a step closer to Wembley.

Very Welcome Kompany

With Burnley sitting rather pretty at the top of the Championship, they should have got the better of Ipswich a fortnight or so ago. However, the FA Cup has a habit of creating results that go against the grain and the Portman Road outcome was certainly one of them.

Admittedly the dour draw was far down the 4th Round’s excitement scale but Burnley’s failure to win would have certainly raised some eyebrows and perhaps more importantly, ruined a few accumulators at the same time.

Whether that was Ipswich playing at their very best or Burnley turning it down a gear is something to be argued. At the same time, the League One outfit may be aware that their best opportunity to make progress has already been used up.

Because there is no doubt that the Turf Moor outfit on their own turf is a far different proposition to deal with and with no defeat in any of their last 15 home league outings, home advantage could be key on Tuesday.

Of course, the FA Cup is more than capable of producing shocks and although the Tractor Boys making it to the 5th Round would not be the biggest of all time, it would certainly be enough of a scalp for Kieran McKenna’s men.

Especially as the League One outfit has seriously stuttered in the past couple of months. At one stage, the East Anglian side looked as if they were going to be well in the race for automatic promotion, now that has been ceded to both Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday.

A run of six league games has offered just a single win. At the same time, they have only lost once during the same spell. The underlying issue is the number of draws that they are recording, so although they are hard to beat, they are lacking any real cutting edge.

Something that was certainly on show at the weekend, as they dropped two more points at local rivals Cambridge United. By the same token, Burnley racked up a ninth successive league win after making light work of Norwich at Carrow Road.

This means one team from the East of England has already been bettered in the past few days, now Burnley will look to make it a double and in doing so, book a cup tie against either Sheffield Wednesday or Fleetwood.

More League One opposition could be around the corner, but they must first deal with what is in front of them, and when it comes to the betting markets, I think I have a deal for you. A home win and under 2.5 goals is priced at 3/1 and I think that is a great piece of value.

Hosts to keep their back line tight

Ipswich up for an upset, Burnley have already failed to beat them once before. Add the Clarets home form to the mix and a narrow win for the hosts is my first replay offering. As for the second, I have taken a look at Nathan Tella.

The 23-year-old has scored nine goals this season and in doing so, is Burnley’s joint-top scorer. This is why I have backed the former Southampton man to break the deadlock and this one comes in at odds of 8/1.
