Two Already Won

Many make City the favourites to win this season’s Champions League, but it would be remiss to overlook Inter before events in Istanbul get underway.

One Final Hurdle

You could argue that Pep Guardiola is already considered immortal when it comes to his managerial capabilities but leading Manchester City to outright success in the Champions League will confirm it once and for all.

The Spaniard has not personally ruled the European roost since he oversaw arguably the best club team to ever play the beautiful game. That team was comprised at Barcelona, their crowning moment was their 2011 final victory over Manchester United.

Of course, Guardiola and his City cohorts almost reached the promised land in 2021. However, that was the year in which Chelsea came out on top in an all-Premier League final and the Champions League trophy ended up returning to London and not Manchester.

Now, City themselves are staking a genuine claim to be the best club team to ever take to the field. Their case will only be strengthened further if they can get the better of Inter Milan and complete this season’s road to Istanbul.

It is fair to say that it has been a tale of two routes to get to Turkey and whereas the Premier League and FA Cup holders have had to do things the difficult way, their Italian opponents have had a far easier path.

Getting the better of Benfica in the Round of 16 would then lead to a last eight pairing with fellow Portuguese outfit Porto. The Estadio do Dragao side would subsequently go the same way at that stage, Inter’s crosstown rivals Milan would eventually follow in the semi-finals.

While it was former Etihad icon Edin Dzekpo who managed to get his name on the scoresheet in the first leg of the semi-final with Milan and he can be backed at odds of 4/1 if you fancy him to score against his former employer on Saturday.

An easier route to get to the final and one that should not be ignored either. Although City had to dispose of PSG, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid in three successive stages, the hardest task is still yet to be completed.

Although it is a task that will be made easier if England’s representatives etch a name or two on the scoresheet. Erling Haaland may have been kept quiet in the recent FA Cup final but at 4/6 to score anytime, it is unlikely that he is kept quiet against Inter.

But now it is time for the first of my two anytime goalscorer tips and first up is Ilkay Gundogan. The German has been nothing short of a clutch player at the back end of this season, at 4/1 to find the net he is nothing short of great value.

In addition to this, I do think this is a game where both teams will find the net and my longer shot is in the direction of Inter. Henrikh Mkhitaryan also netted in the semi-final first leg and I am backing him to repeat that feat at odds of 17/2.
