Real Madrid v Eintracht Fankfurt UEFA Super Cup Match Preview & Betting Tips

Time for a European curtain raiser on Wednesday, as Real Madrid take on Eintracht Frankfurt.

After winning the Champions League and Europa League last season respectively, Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt will now square off in Helsinki, as the 2022 UEFA Super Cup will soon be up for grabs.

Up For The Super Cup

After being thumped 6-1 by Bayern Munich at the weekend, the last thing that Eintracht Frankfurt need is a meeting with Real Madrid on Wednesday. While unfortunately for them, there is no avoiding this meeting either.

Because after getting the better of Rangers in last season’s Europa League final, it meant that the Bundesliga outfit subsequently earned an invite to the latest edition of the UEFA Super Cup and with Liverpool being defeated in the Champions League final, this upcoming fixture was soon set.

One that will see Carlo Ancelotti lead his cabal of superstars to the Finnish capital of Helsinki and although this continental clash is nothing more than a curtain raiser for the European season, it is still a trophy that both sides will be keen to win.

While with a new LaLiga campaign getting underway this weekend, this trip to Scandinavia will also offer Los Blancos one last tune up for their defence of the Spanish title – one in which they are once again favourites to win.

However, those domestic matters are not Real Madrid’s concern just yet and with the Santiago Bernabeu outfit also clear favourites to lift this trophy, the question is whether any value can be found from this encounter.

While the answer is that there is always some value if you dig deep enough and this time it comes courtesy of the referee. Because with Real currently priced at 3/1 to score a penalty, their attacking talent should certainly cause their German counterparts a headache or two.

Real Madrid to score a penalty - 3/1

An attacking Madrid display and a penalty from the referee in charge is Dan's first pick

Of course, this Madrid side can now call upon Antonio Rudiger in defence and although they missed out on landing Kylian Mbappe this summer, they have at least continued their French invasion with compatriot Aurélien Tchouaméni.

As for Eintracht Frankfurt, they have also splashed the cash across the off-season and with Lucas Alario joining from Bayer Leverkusen and Mario Gotze returning to the Bundesliga after a stint with PSV, their attacking department has suitably been replenished.

However, it is their defence that may need reinforcing after a dreadful showing last Friday and although they will not be the last team to be steamrollered by Bayern Munich, that performance was far from ideal preparation for this encounter.

With that said, manager Oliver Glasner and his players must simply but that aberration behind them. Because if they dwell on their embarrassing performance too much, another one may lie just around the corner.

It was a half dozen goals shipped in their last outing and although I don’t think it will that much this time around, their evening could be torrid once more. Which is why I also like the look of a 3-1 Real Madrid win (90 mins) at odds of 10/1.
