Truist Championship Betting Tips
Winner
- Winner - Shane Lowry (each-way, 6 places)
Shane Lowry is a wily competitor who thrives when the going gets tough. That is exactly what is expected at Philadelphia Cricket Club as it hosts a PGA Tour event for the first time.
A former Open Champion, Lowry relishes a grind, and with cool temperatures, potential rain, and gusty winds in the forecast, this Par 70, A.W. Tillinghast design should bring out his best.
The course demands control, shot-shaping, and a sharp short game - traits Lowry has in abundance. A disappointing final-round 81 at The Masters was an outlier that’s best left in the rear-view mirror. The Irishman had been in excellent form heading into Augusta and was well-positioned for a strong finish before Sunday unravelled.
Lowry was not helped by the media storm swirling around his close friend Rory McIlroy, but this week he can focus on notching an overdue victory.
Winner
- Winner - Justin Rose (each-way, 6 places)
He handled the playoff defeat as graciously as you would expect, but losing to Rory McIlroy at Augusta must have hurt Justin Rose, who may not come that close to winning another major again.
It was always going to be a tall order for him to go well at Harbour Town the following week after that emotional rollercoaster, but after a short rest, the slate should be wiped clean for the Truist Championship.
The Wissahickon Course looks ideal for Rose. It’s a classical golf course, and the Englishman has regularly thrived on those.
Less than 20 miles from Philadelphia Cricket Club sits Merion Golf Club, where Justin Rose famously claimed the 2013 U.S. Open. Both courses demand precision and strategy over brute force, hallmarks of venues where Rose has enjoyed his best results.
That same thoughtful test can be found at other tracks he’s conquered, like Pebble Beach and Aronimink, reinforcing the belief that Philly Cricket Club should suit his game perfectly.

It’s difficult to get the big guns beaten at Signature Events, but we can exclude them and get behind Keegan Bradley, whose record on Golden Age parkland courses suggests he’s well-equipped for Wissahickon.
His 2018 BMW Championship win at Aronimink - a Donald Ross design just outside Philadelphia - came on a layout restored by Gil Hanse, featuring strategic bunkering, tight fairways, and undulating greens, much like Philly Cricket Club.
That playoff success over Rose ended a six-year drought and proved his comfort with classic designs.
The former PGA champion is driving the ball beautifully. The putter has deserted him as of late, but bentgrass is his best surface so we may see a turnaround in Philly.
Top 30
- Top 30 - Taylor Pendrith
Performance on the long Par 4s could be pivotal this week. Five of them are over 450 yards, with three of those measuring over 490 yards.
This is a thinking man’s course for the most part, but power is an advantage, and it won’t hurt to have a big-hitter onside.
Taylor Pendrith fits the bill. He has gained strokes off the tee in all but one start this term, and has achieved three top 10s, including a second consecutive top 10 at Pebble Beach, a course with characteristics that align closely with Wissahickon.

The PGA Tour is heating up this week with the Truist Championship at the Philadelphia Cricket Club's Wissahickon Course from May 8-11.
