Brighton will be looking to add Sheffield United’s woes when they head to Bramall Lane on Sunday afternoon.

The Blades remain rooted to the foot of the table, although they will have been buoyed by a 3-1 win over relegation rivals Luton, arresting a three-game losing streak in the process.

Meanwhile, Brighton will have been left frustrated by their last league showing after letting a lead slip against Tottenham before being outdone at the death by a late Brennan Johnson strike from close range.

The Seagulls have dropped off the pace this term, as they are ninth in the table, but if results go their way this weekend, they could climb up to seventh.

Roberto de Zerbi may still harbour aspirations of success on the continent this season as his side are still involved in the Europa League, but a top-seven finish remains a more realistic route to further European football next term.

Without overstating things, this is a must-win game for United, so can they deliver in front of their fans?

I have scurried over to the betting markets and handpicked a couple of lines for you to chew over ahead of kick-off.

Seagulls to soar once again

Compared to the dizzying highs of last season where the prospect of a top-four finish at one point seemed attainable, Brighton have regressed a little this term.

Results have been mixed, and strangely, they are still searching for their first league win of 2024.

Their troubles on the road have been well documented, as they are winless in their last six away league games, their longest barren spell since Graham Potter presided over a seven-game run between September and December 2021.

More perturbingly, Brighton have only won one of their last six Premier League games against sides that started the day in the bottom three (D2, L3), shipped in 15 goals across that period.

Then again, United are far from watertight, and they have conceded more home Premier League goals than any other side in the competition’s history (31 in 12 games).

It’s difficult to make a solid case for United to alleviate their relegation fears, so I’ve gone with Brighton to win by a margin of two goals which is available at an enticing 7/2 with Paddy Power.

Facundo Buonanotte to haunt United again

Injuries have been mounting up of late for Brighton, but one player that appears to have found his goalscoring boots of late is Facundo Buonanotte.

Two goals in his past four appearances in all competitions is a decent burst, and the Argentine was on target when Brighton stormed into the FA Cup Fifth Round with a resounding 5-2 win over the Blades last month.

United will probably not relish facing him again, but I fancy Buonanotte to be a handful.

He could well open the scoring, and bet365 is advertising a longish 11/1 price if you like the sound of that.
