Chepstow hopefully survives a 7.30am precautionary inspection as the course provides the only jumps racing in Britain on Tuesday afternoon, although there is an interesting card at Clonmel in Ireland. We have two horse racing tips for the Welsh racecourse along with a selection for the finale on Kempton’s all-weather surface.
“Tip of the Day” - Bear Ghylls (2.30pm Chepstow) - 13/8 with bet365*
Nicky Martin’s exciting chasing prospect can get his career over the bigger obstacles back on track with a victory in this novices’ limited handicap chase.
2.30pm Chepstow, 2m 3 1/2f - Bear Ghylls (Nap)
Prevaricate is an interesting chasing debutante on his first start for trainer Venetia Williams since leaving the Gordon Elliott stable recently. The Irish point-to-point winner is sure to pay his way over the bigger obstacles but is probably best watched on this occasion.
Jane Williams’ Interne De Sivola gets plenty of weight from his rivals and could go well if last week’s fall at Wincanton has not left its mark. The best of these over hurdles however was Nicky Martin’s top weight BEAR GHYLLS and this winner of three of his four starts over hurdles has always looked an exciting prospect over fences.
The mount of James Bowen’s only defeat over hurdles came when fourth in the 2021 Ballymore at the Cheltenham Festival behind three top-notchers in Bob Olinger, Gaillard Du Mesnil and Bravemansgame. After making a promising chasing debut when third in a Listed chase at Carlisle, the gelding probably found his next race under top weight in a Uttoxeter handicap coming too soon.
Following a break of two months, Bear Ghylls is fancied to get his chasing career back on track by giving the weight away to his four rivals in this novices’ limited handicap.
3.35pm Chepstow, 2m 7 1/2f - Fiamette (Each Way) (Longshot)
A desperately weak Class 5 handicap hurdle, run over just short of three miles. The two obvious contenders are William Philo, a narrow runner-up at Uttoxeter on the final day of last year, and top weight One For Mamma who failed to land a bit of a gamble at Warwick on the same day. However, at a big price I think the Jo Davis-trained FIAMETTE (e.w.) is worth an each way bet off a mark of only 84.
The five-year-old mare ran well off an 8lb higher mark at Ffos Las last February when finishing fifth of 13 in a slightly better race, only weakening in the closing stages. The mount of Jonathan Burke should improve for her first run of the season at the Welsh track last month, the mare’s first run for 279 days, and in a race which shouldn’t take too much winning is fancied to outrun her odds.
3.50pm Kempton, 6f - Sense Of Security (Each Way) (Next Best)
Jockey bookings are always important in these amateur rider handicaps and there are few better in that department than Simon Walker. The top amateur is set to partner the George Baker-trained SENSE OF SECURITY (e.w.) for the first time and the filly can provide Walker with yet another winner if reproducing either of her two recent efforts on the track.
A three quarters of a length second over course and distance off today’s mark of 57 last October, despite ducking left at the start and receiving a bump, the four-year-old followed that up with another decent effort at Kempton just over a week ago when headed close home over an extra furlong.
The return to 6f and with his talented amateur rider in the saddle, Sense Of Security should prove too good for recent Wolverhampton winner Bungle Bay, while Silver Dollar may be best of those at a bigger price.
