Royal Ascot 2017 Betting Tips

It’s the race that welcomes the Royals, tens of thousands of top hats, and a press section that concentrates more on the fashion than the races.

Not us. With five days of fantastic meets, it’s perfect for punters to cash in on the bookies and make the most of the Royal Ascot favourites.

Royal Ascot has been at the heart of the racing schedule since the 1700s and the modern era welcomes over 300,000 each year.

Starting Tuesday, here’s our guide to the biggest meets and where your money should go…

Tuesday June 20

Kicking off Royal Ascot in style is the Queen Anne Stakes, with Ribchester going into the race as a firm favourite. Ran over a mile, the Godolphin horse comes into the race in great form having won last month at Newbury. A good punt may be Deauville with the horse at 12/1 to win with Ladbrokes. Should it win, it’ll be Aidan O’Brien’s fourth win in the race, a race he really does love.

Odds on the Queen Anne Stakes:

Ribchester: 4/6

Lightning Spear: 5/1

Mutakayyef: 8/1

Deauville: 12/1

Dutch Connection: 16/1

American Patriot: 25/1

The Prince of Wales’s Stakes will head up a great day of racing on Wednesday at Royal Ascot. With a purse of 750,000, it’s one of the more lucrative prize pots of the festival with Michael Stoute’s Ulysses backed as favourite at 5/2.

Hawkbill has an outside shot at 10/1 having been a consistent horse this season and finishing third behind a strong field in the Coronation Cup at Epsom earlier this month. Charlie Appleby has high hopes for this one, as do we.

Odds on the Prince of Wales’s Stakes:

Ulysses: 5/2

Jack Hobbs: 5/2

Highland Reel: 4/1

Hawkbill: 10/1

Mekhtaal: 10/1

Decorated Knight: 12/1

The centrepiece of Royal Ascot lands on Ladies Day in the shape of the Ascot Gold Cup. Last year’s winner Order of St George is a clear favourite for this one among all of the UK’s leading bookmakers. He’s already claimed the Saval Beg Stakes earlier this year, seeing off much of the favoured field for the Gold Cup.

It’s a dead contest for most this one, but there are still some interesting horses to back. Big Orange is coming into the cup on the back of a big win and will be ridden by Frankie Dettori, who his after his sixth win in the race. Simple Verse is another horse worth backing at 10/1, with a cluster of big wins in the past.

Odds on the Ascot Gold Cup:

Order of St George: 10/11

Big Orange: 10/1

Simple Verse: 10/1

Sheikhzayedroad: 12/1

Sweet Selection: 14/1

Dal Harraild: 14/1

Following the Ascot Gold Cup, the Commonwealth Cup provides one of the highlights of Friday’s racing. The competition began in 2015 with Caravaggio the one touted to win. Blue Point has been racing well recently, having already won at Ascot this year in the Merriebelle Stable Pavilion Stakes, beating Harry Angel, another horse tipped for the win.

Odds on the Commonwealth Cup:

Caravaggio: 11/10

Harry Angel: 3/1

Blue Point: 11/2

Lady Aurelia: 10/1

Dream Castle: 12/1

Bound For Nowhere: 12/1

Limato: 4/1

Magical Memory: 7/1

The Tin Man: 7/1

Tasleet: 9/1

Signs of Blessing: 10/1
