Manchester City vs Real Madrid Match Preview

Manchester City are still alive on three fronts going into the final weeks of the season, with a second successive treble still on the cards but Pep Guardiola will demand an improved defensive effort from his players this time out.

While a draw away in Madrid must be considered a good result, he would have expected to come away with a win having scored three goals and that they are without a clean sheet since the end of March will be of concern.

The return of Ederson to the starting line-up in the win over Luton will count for a lot - Stefan Ortega deputised last week - while Kyle Walker is also expected to return, and his past record against Vinicius Junior suggests that will be another boost.

Guardiola is likely to make changes, with Kevin De Bruyne another who should come into the side which means Manchester City could have a much more familiar look to them when it comes to Wednesday’s game.

Real Madrid on the other hand were able to afford valuable rest to the likes of Jude Bellingham, Toni Kroos, Vinicius and Rodrygo in beating Mallorca at the weekend, and they will know they face an uphill task in trying to outscore Manchester City on home turf.

Manchester City vs Real Madrid Tips

Manchester City will fancy their chances of getting the job done, but there is no doubt that their defence isn’t what it was last season and with Real’s attacking potential it should still be an entertaining game with both teams getting on the scoresheet.

Along with that, we fancy Phil Foden to continue his goalscoring form. The attacking midfielder netted a stunner in the first leg and with four goals in his last two games - and 23 goals all season - he is clearly in the form of his life, and could be City’s key attacking weapon on the night.

Erling Haaland has attracted some criticism in big matches this season, with teams finding it relatively easy to manage him out of the game but he remains a potent weapon for Man City.

It is only a matter of time before he fires on the big stage and we think this could be the occasion, along with Rodrygo who was one of the Real players on target in the first leg and is a man in form with four goals in his last three games.
