England Euro 2024 Top Tip
England head into Euro 2024 as one of the sides to watch. After years of underperforming with so much quality talent, Gareth Southgate has turned the Three Lions into a serious threat at major tournaments.
Under the former Middlesbrough boss, England reached the semi-final of the 2018 World Cup and the final of Euro 2020 before losing out to Italy.
In the years since, the likes of Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka and Phil Foden have transformed from emerging stars to world-class talent, giving England a great chance of reaching the final once again this summer.
Euro 2024 Odds
England are considered one of the favourites in the odds for Euro 2024. Gareth Southgate has been steadily building a very strong squad and now has quality players in every position as well as a lot of tournament experience, and they are expected to go far in Germany.

England’s Road to Qualification
As is often the case, England made light work of their Euro 2024 qualifying group, clinching top spot in Group C with relative ease.
The Three Lions were drawn alongside Italy, Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta, with the former of that quartet their only real threat to first place.
However, England won six, drew two (vs Ukraine and North Macedonia), lost zero, scored 22 and conceded just four across their eight group games to secure 1st place in Group C - finishing four points above 2nd-place Italy.
When are England’s Euro 2024 games?
England will play three Euro 2024 group games. The opponents and dates can be found below:
- Group C - Serbia vs England, June 16.
- Group C - Denmark vs England, June 20.
- Group C - England vs Slovenia, June 25.
England’s Road to the Final
Anyone who is looking at backing England for success will want to know how they can get to the final. Their paths are determined by where they finish in the group, either first, second or third - and here are the various permutations that they will have to navigate.
Round of 16
- If England win Group C - Their last 16 game will be against one of the 3rd-place teams from Group D, E or F. This game will be played on June 30.
- If England are runners up in Group C - Their last 16 game will come against the winners of Group A - a group containing Germany, Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland. This game will be played on June 29.
- If England finish third in Group C (and accumulate enough points to advance to the knockout stage) - Their last 16 game will be against either the winner of Group F - Turkey Portugal, Czech Republic, TBD - or the winner of Group E - Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, TBD. These games will be played on July 1 or July 2.
Quarter-Finals
- If England win Group C - They will face the winner of the last-16 clash between the runner-up of Group A vs the runner-up of Group B. On paper, their most likely opponent will be Italy. This game will be played on July 6.
- If England are runners up in Group C - They will face the winner of the last-16 clash between the Group B winner vs one of the 3rd-place teams from Group A/D/E/F. Their most likely opponent would be Spain (coming in as Group B winners). This game will be played on July 5.
- If England finish third in Group C (and accumulate enough points to advance to the knockout stage) - They will either face the winner of the last-16 clash between Group D and E’s runners-up or the winner of the game between Group D’s winner and Group F’s runner-up. These games will be played on July 5 or July 6.
Semi-Finals
- If England win Group C - Many assumptions have to be made by the time we get to this stage, but if things go as expected, England will face either Belgium or Portugal in the semi-final. This game will be played on July 10.
- If England are runners up in Group C - Again, a lot of assumptions need to be made here but England’s most likely opponents are France or the Czech Republic. This game will be played on July 9.
- If England finish third in Group C (and accumulate enough points to advance to the knockout stage) - Given how the third-place teams are put into the knockout phase, England could face any of Germany, Spain, Netherlands or Belgium. These games will be played on July 9 or July 10.
Final
- If England win Group C - On the opposing side of the draw in this scenario would be the likes of Germany, Spain, Netherlands or Portugal - of said clubs, Spain seem the most likely to make it to the final. The final will be played on July 14.
- If England are runners up in Group C - On the opposing side of the draw in this scenario would be the likes of Belgium, France, Denmark or Italy.
- If England finish third in Group C (and accumulate enough points to advance to the knockout stage) - England could be put onto either side of the draw depending on how they rank among the third-place teams, meaning they could face any of the big hitters we have mentioned above.
England’s Key Players
Harry Kane - If England are to have success at Euro 2024 then they will need Harry Kane to be at his best. The Bayern Munich striker is the Three Lions’ record goalscorer with (62) and has the most goals of any England player at major tournaments (11).
Jude Bellingham - After being a fringe star at Euro 2020, Jude Bellingham is expected to be one of England’s most important players this summer. The 20-year-old is in the midst of a sensational 2023/24 campaign with new club Real Madrid and if he can bring his club form into the tournament, England have a real shot at going far in the competition.
John Stones - Despite all the quality at the top end of the pitch, England are still somewhat lacking for world-class options at the back. For many years, Gareth Southgate has opted for a centre-back pairing of John Stones and Harry Maguire. The latter has been somewhat inconsistent for his club, but Stones has been superb for Manchester City and will need to bring that same level into Euro 2024.
