Charlie McCann's Horse Racing Tips Friday, 14 August - Newbury & Thirsk
Charlie heads to Newbury on Friday for his best bet

It's a busy day of racing action in the UK and Ireland, and Charlie McCann is here with his exclusive free horse racing tips - only at FreeBets.
4:45pm Newbury - Evenfall (Nap)
It is rare for me to recommend juveniles and five of the six runners in the valuable fillies' race are last-time-out winners. That said, I was hugely impressed with EVENFALL (Nap) when she made a winning racecourse debut at Yarmouth over the minimum trip last month, and she will relish the additional furlong this afternoon.
It has been a difficult week for trainer George Boughey given the shock retirement of the unbeaten Bow Echo earlier in the week, but the form of the selection's Yarmouth success was given a boost when the second – now rated eighty-five - went one better at Musselburgh.
Godolphin's Sorrengail was weak in the market first time out but showed promise and duly won on her second start at Ascot when she beat a subsequent winner – now rated eighty-one – of Richard Spencer. She looks the chief threat but Evenfall – who holds entries in all the leading six-furlong juvenile fillies' races in the autumn – gets the vote.
Recommendation: Evenfall (Nap) - Evens with bet365
7:50pm Thirsk - Mount King
Military Leader has finished second in his last three starts, but is bred to be smart and has form figures of 1-1-3-2-2-2 in this calendar year. The ex-Godolphin five-year-old has been raised over a stone this summer but remains of interest although he is drawn out on the wing in stall fifteen. Paul Mulrennan takes over for the first time for Philip Makin, and he would be carrying an additional pound from tomorrow.
The vote, however, goes to MOUNT KING, a four-time Pontefract winner who has also scored over course and distance and has looked better than ever in recent starts. A winner in first-time blinkers on his penultimate start, the five-year-old then finished runner-up back at the West Yorkshire track from today's mark when David Allen perhaps gave him a tad too much to do.
He will appreciate a strong gallop and should get it with Miss Willow,Travis and Style Of Life all likely to go forward. The selection looks well housed in stall seven, and the hope is that David Allen can weave his way through the pack in the home straight.
Recommendation: Mount King - 13/2 with bet365
5:58pm Newbury - Scutari
I appreciate there is an element of guesswork involved in SCUTARI making his British debut in the concluding seven-furlong handicap for Karl Burke. It is possible that the French import is just having a pipe-opener and keeping the stable's Wateera - who runs in the listed St Hugh's Stakes earlier in the card - company.
The three-year-old colt was last seen winning on the all-weather at Deauville earlier in the year when owned by Juddmonte and his half-brother – Masen – relished fast ground. He cost his present connections 62,000 gns in February and has obviously taken time to acclimatise to his new surroundings.
This will be the fastest ground he has encountered, and he could go off 20/1 or 3/1, but the classic generation have won three of the last four renewals of the race, and they receive 6lbs weight-for-age from their elder over this 7f trip.
I was disappointed with Lightning Polka at Doncaster last time but would expect to see her race more prominently today. She is out of a 7f winner, but I wonder whether she would be best served stepping up to a mile going forward.
Recommendation: Scutari - 4/1 with bet365
