How to Bet on League Two

League Two offers a varied betting landscape, from individual fixtures and player markets to season-long bets on promotion and relegation.

If you're looking to get started with League Two betting, here's a simple guide:

  1. Pick your bet – choose a market such as match result, goals, BTTS, player props or an outright market.
  2. Compare bookmaker prices – check several top football betting sites before placing your bet to find the most competitive odds.
  3. Choose your stake – decide how much you're willing to risk and only bet with money you can afford to lose.
  4. Place your selection – back one outcome or combine several picks in an accumulator, while Bet Builders allow you to mix markets from the same game.
  5. Check before confirming – make sure your selections, odds, stake and potential return are correct before placing the bet.

League Two also offers in-play betting, allowing you to place wagers once matches have kicked off.

Prices can change quickly as goals, cards, substitutions and other developments influence the game, so always check the latest odds before confirming an in-play selection.

League Two Betting Markets Explained

There's more to League Two betting than simply picking a winner, with bookmakers offering markets across individual matches as well as the season-long promotion and relegation races.

Some of the main options include:

  • Match Result (1X2) – Pick the home team, draw or away team to win after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
  • Double Chance – Cover two possible match results with one selection, such as a home win or draw.
  • Both Teams to Score (BTTS) – Predict whether both teams will score during the fixture.
  • Over/Under Goals – Bet on whether the combined number of goals will be above or below a selected line.
  • Correct Score – Select the exact final score, with less likely results carrying bigger odds.
  • Anytime Goalscorer – Back a named player to score at any point during the match.
  • Draw No Bet – Choose a team to win, with your stake returned if the match finishes level.
  • Handicap Betting – Apply a virtual advantage or deficit to one side to create a different betting line.
  • Bet Builder – Combine multiple selections from the same League Two match into one wager.
  • Accumulator (Acca) – Put selections from several fixtures together, with every leg required to win for the bet to pay out.
  • Promotion Markets – Back teams to win League Two, secure automatic promotion or go up through the play-offs.
  • Relegation Markets – Predict which clubs will finish in the bottom two and drop into the National League.
  • Outright Markets – Season-long bets include the League Two winner, promotion, relegation and top goalscorer.

League Two Format & Key Dates

The EFL League Two consists of 24 clubs, with each side playing 46 league fixtures across the campaign, meeting every opponent twice, once at home and once away.

Teams receive three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. If clubs finish level on points, goal difference is used to separate them, followed by goals scored.

Promotion & Relegation

The top three League Two clubs earn automatic promotion to League One, while teams finishing 4th to 7th compete in the play-offs for the fourth promotion place. The bottom two sides are relegated to the National League.

Play-Offs

The clubs finishing 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th enter the League Two play-offs. Two-legged semi-finals are followed by a one-off final at Wembley, with the winner joining the automatic promotion sides in League One.

The 2026/27 League Two Season at a Glance

League Two Betting FAQs

How does promotion from League Two work?
The top three clubs earn automatic promotion to League One, while teams finishing 4th to 7th battle through the play-offs for the fourth and final promotion place. That means four League Two sides move up each season.
How many teams are promoted from League Two?
Four teams go up: the top three are promoted automatically, with the final spot decided by the play-off winner from the clubs finishing 4th to 7th.
What are the League Two play-offs?
The teams finishing 4th to 7th contest two-legged semi-finals, with 4th facing 7th and 5th taking on 6th. The two winners then meet at Wembley, with the winner claiming the final promotion place.
How many teams are relegated from League Two?
The bottom two clubs drop into the National League at the end of the season, making the fight for survival just as important as the promotion race.
When does the League Two season start and finish?
The regular campaign generally gets underway in August and finishes in May, with all 24 clubs playing 46 league matches. The promotion play-offs take place after the regular season.
What's the difference between the League Two winner and promotion markets?
The winner market is settled on the club that finishes top, while the promotion market covers all four teams that reach League One — the top three automatically and the play-off winner. As the two markets cover different outcomes, it's worth checking both prices before backing a team.
What betting markets are available on League Two?
There's plenty to choose from, including season-long bets on the winner, promotion, relegation and top goalscorer, plus match markets such as 1X2, BTTS, goals, correct score, handicaps and Bet Builders.
