Rumours are circulating that Swansea City are about to sack manager Alan Sheehan after a pretty poor start to the season, and an international break to try and fix things.
With this speculation, I'll take a look at next Swansea manager candidates, and see who is out there for the Welsh side to turn to.
Just four wins from 15 league games, it's been tough, but Swansea are seven points clear of the drop zone, and just six away from 7th position, so it's not a disaster for whoever does come in and take over.

Next Swansea Manager Contenders
Questions over summer signings, a change in style, a nice guy but not good enough, perhaps? There's a lot happened at Swansea under Sheehan, but of course, talk instantly turns to who comes next through the door?
There's actually plenty of good Championship managers available right now, which is maybe why this decision has been made. But there's also competition, as Norwich, Southampton and Middlesbrough are also looking for a new boss to guide them.
Michael Carrick
Michael Carrick, former Manchester United and England midfielder, moved into management after retiring. He briefly served as United’s caretaker in 2021 before becoming Middlesbrough’s head coach in October 2022.
Carrick led Boro to a playoff push and an EFL Cup semi final in 2023-24, their best cup run since 2004. However, after a disappointing 10th-place finish the following season, he was dismissed in June 2025.
His managerial journey remains in its early stages but shows tactical promise rooted in calm, disciplined football.
Gary O’Neil
Gary O’Neil, a former Premier League midfielder, began coaching at Bournemouth, where he became head coach in 2022. He guided them to Premier League safety despite heavy relegation odds, earning praise for his organisation and energy.
In August 2023 he joined Wolves, leading them to a mid table finish and FA Cup quarter final. Yet, after a poor start to 2024-25, he was sacked in December 2024 with the club 19th.
His career shows strong early leadership but inconsistency at higher pressure levels.
Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers, from Northern Ireland, has managed Swansea before, as well as Liverpool, Celtic, and Leicester City. He led Swansea to Premier League promotion in 2011 and delivered an unbeaten domestic season and trebles with Celtic. His return would certainly turn back the years.
At Leicester, he won the club’s first FA Cup and Community Shield in 2021. Returning to Celtic in 2023, he added another league title before resigning in October 2025 after a poor start.
Known for possession based, attacking football,, and of course, is much loved by Swansea fans.
Steven Gerrard
Steven Gerrard, one of Liverpool’s greatest players, began management with Rangers in 2018. He guided them to the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership title, ending Celtic’s dominance.
Gerrard then managed Aston Villa from 2021 to 2022 but was dismissed after poor results. In 2023, he took charge of Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia but left in January 2025 after a poor run.
Touted for a potential return to Rangers last month, he's clearly open to a move back to British football.
Russell Martin
Another one to possibly return, Russell Martin is back on the market following his dismissal from Rangers last month. It's been up and down since his days with The Swans, making the Premier League with Southampton, but being sacked from there, and then failing dreadfully in Scotland.
His departure remains a talking point, but before leaving, did nothing but impress, and let's not forget his derby double of Cardiff, and what that meant to the club.
Is he interested in an immediate return to football? And more importantly, a return to Swansea?
