Paul Mullin Next Club Odds: Where Next for Wrexham Legend?

June 26, 2026 at 6:50 pm GMT+1

Paul Mullin is the name dominating lower-league transfer talk this summer, with the latest Paul Mullin next club odds emerging after the former Wrexham striker's emotional exit from the Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham confirmed the mutual termination of Mullin's contract on 26 June 2026, bringing an end to a five-year spell where the forward became a club legend.

The 31-year-old scored 110 goals in 172 appearances, won the League Two Player of the Season award three times and played a key role in Wrexham's remarkable rise from the National League to the Championship.

Despite the positive farewell messages, Mullin's departure had been building. He didn't feature for Wrexham in the Championship last season, instead spending the campaign on loan with Wigan Athletic before a brief spell at Bradford City.

With Kieffer Moore, Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez added to the attacking ranks, both player and club decided a fresh start was the best outcome.

The biggest factor in the transfer market is that Mullin is available for free.

There is no fee required to sign one of the EFL's most recognisable strikers, although his reported £5,800-a-week wages could prove a stumbling block for some League One and League Two clubs.

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said the move allows Mullin to "take his time and find the right club", while Ryan Reynolds previously admitted he struggled to imagine seeing the striker "in another kit".

A Premier League move was always unlikely, but Mullin's profile remains huge thanks to his role in Welcome to Wrexham and his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.

With clubs expected to circle, here at Free Bets we take a closer look at the leading contenders and assess the most realistic destinations for Mullin’s next chapter.

Wigan Athletic

For all the speculation around bigger clubs, a permanent return to Wigan Athletic is one of the most logical outcomes for Mullin.

The Latics know exactly what they would be getting after his loan spell in 2025/26, while a move back to League One would give the striker the regular minutes he has been looking for.

He scored five goals across all competitions during his time at the DW Stadium, although the loan was cut short in January after he made just seven league starts.

From Wigan's side, the appeal is clear - a proven EFL goalscorer available without a transfer fee, with experience, leadership and a connection to the club already in place.

The main question is whether they can make the finances work.

Some supporters questioned whether Wigan could match the wages Mullin was earning at Wrexham, and that could prove the deciding factor.

Bolton Wanderers

Bolton are arguably the strongest name linked with Mullin so far.

Reports earlier in 2026 suggested boss Steven Schumacher was interested in adding a proven goalscorer to his attacking options, with Mullin's experience and EFL record making him an obvious fit.

The talk cooled at the time, but the situation has now changed.

With Mullin available as a free agent, Bolton would no longer need to pay a fee, making a deal more realistic if the wage package is suitable.

There is no indication a move is close, but stylistically and competitively, Bolton look like one of the clubs that make sense.

Cambridge United

This is the sentimental option - and one that would appeal to plenty of fans.

Mullin became a Cambridge United hero during the 2020/21 season, winning League Two Player of the Season after scoring 32 league goals before earning his move to Wrexham.

A return to the Abbey would give him the chance to rebuild at a club where he is still hugely popular, while Cambridge could add one of the division's most recognisable names without paying a transfer fee.

The question is whether the finances line up.

The story makes sense, but there has been no concrete indication that a reunion is being discussed.

MLS / USA Club

The wildcard option is a move across the Atlantic.

Mullin's profile has grown massively through Wrexham's rise, the documentary series and his links with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, making a move to the US an obvious talking point.

A switch to MLS or the USL Championship would offer commercial appeal and a new challenge, while Mullin has previously spoken positively about his experiences visiting America with Wrexham.

However, the reality is that US clubs often target younger players or bigger international names, making this more of a headline-making possibility than a likely destination.
