Despite four winning naps out of six (4/1, 9/4, 2/1 and 6/4 (10p R4) we ended the week with just a small profit of +£2.35.
This week's action heads to Town Moor for Doncaster’s St Leger meeting which gets underway on Thursday, while over in Ireland it is Champions weekend at Leopardstown (Saturday) and the Curragh (Sunday).

P/L for the year 2025: +£22.38
P/L for the year 2024: +£200.42
P/L since 1st September 2022: +£660.00
Alan Kelly's Tips - Wednesday, 9 September
The first day of Doncaster’s St Leger meeting on Town Moor features a couple of Group 2 races, the Betfred Park Hill Fillies’ Stakes at 3:00pm, followed by the Betfred May Hill Stakes at 3:35pm.
The ground on the opening day is expected to ride on the soft side of good, with the prospect of light rain throughout the day.
1:50pm Doncaster - Night In Vegas (Nap)
Conditions for this Weatherbys £300,000 2-Year-Old Stakes greatly favour a couple of horses at the bottom of the weights, the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained NIGHT IN VEGAS (Nap) and Joseph O’Brien’s Irish raider Seven Nation Army. The former, in particular, would be conceding weight all round in a handicap, yet receives between 3lb and 7lb from all but two of his rivals.
The Lucky Vega colt was last seen winning Newmarket’s £200,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes last month, easily beating Richard Spencer’s Super Sprint winner Zigazig Ah, who is unlikely to reverse that form on today’s 6lb worse terms.
A close 5th of 21 in Royal Ascot’s Coventry Stakes, Charles Bishops’ mount paid the penalty for trying to match strides with early leader Jaan Ki Tukri in Goodwood’s Group 2 Richmond Stakes on his next start, but lost nothing in defeat when failing to withstand the late challenge of Ballydoyle’s Man’s Best Friend.
Providing Night In Vegas’s low draw in stall 6 does not prove to be a disadvantage, connections should enjoy another big pay day at the main expense of Clive Cox’s Satellite Of Love and God Given Talent from the bang-in-form William Haggas stable.
Recommendation: Night In Vegas (Nap) - 6/4 with bet365
This is Alan's Nap of the Day selection - see how it stacks up against Charlie McCann's pick too.
3:00pm Doncaster - Waardah
An open renewal of this Group 2 Park Hill Stakes with bookmakers going 4/1 the field about the 9 runners. The 2nd, 4th and 5th horses home in last year’s race take each other on again, Consent, Danielle and Floresta. I expect Sir Mark Prescott's Lope De Vega filly to confirm the form of that race, although the mount of Luke Morris may have to settle for a minor placing once again behind the Owen Burrows-trained WAARDAH.
The daughter of Postponed beat Danielle in last season’s Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes at Goodwood before ending the year when never close enough to mount a challenge behind the likes of Kalpana and Estrange at Ascot on Champions Day.
Beaten a length and a half by the recently retired Estrange on her reappearance at Carlisle in May, Callum Rodriguez’ mount just lost out in a close finish to Joseph O’Brien’s Goodie Two Shoes and Santorini Star in last month’s Lillie Langtry, looking far from happy on the good to firm ground.
Waardah’s three victories to date have all come with the word soft in the going description, and this talented filly looks to have her ideal conditions this afternoon on Town Moor.
Recommendation: Waardah - 11/4 with Coral
4:45pm Doncaster - Undiscovered
Well supported for Goodwood’s Group 2 Vintage Stakes last month, Ralph Beckett’s Undiscovered failed to justify the market confidence in finishing a well beaten last of the 6 runners behind the winner Dr Rascal and runner-up Haffner, who would go on to win York’s Acomb Stakes on his next start. Back in third place was Godolphin’s 112-rated Al Hudaiba.
UNDISCOVERED, a previous winner of two races at Salisbury, didn’t help his chances at the West Sussex racecourse by hanging to his right, since when the son of New Bay has been gelded. Making his handicap debut off a mark of 93, I think there is every chance that Rossa Ryan’s mount could outclass his 8 rivals in this 7f Class 3 nursery.
Tom Clover's Fuel the Jet will find this easier than when beating only one home in York’s Acomb Stakes last time and should confirm the form of his Newbury win over Richard Hannon’s Rafe’s Da Man on 7lb better terms and is the other one to consider.
Recommendation: Undiscovered - 3/1 with bet365
