Alan Kelly's Tips - Tuesday, 9 December
Soft ground is expected for Tuesday’s British jumps meeting at Uttoxeter. Over in Ireland, the going at Punchestown is heavy on the chase course and soft to heavy on the hurdles course.
2:30pm Uttoxeter - Sole Solution
After all three of Venetia Williams’ runners were pulled up on Saturday, the stable finally had their first winner in over a week when Djelo had little trouble in winning a second Grade 2 Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon on Sunday.
While the in-and-out form of the stable is still a concern, the promising Sole Solution makes his chasing debut in this three mile handicap off what could turn out to be a very lenient mark of 119. Winner of both of his Bumpers, the seven-year-old was let down by some poor jumping when unplaced on his first start over hurdles at Bangor last November.
No match for Fergal O’Brien’s Sixmilebridge at Leicester on his next start, a horse now rated 142 over hurdles and 143 over fences, Sole Solution was far from disgraced in finishing a staying-on second. Making all of the running to win races at Hereford and Sandown earlier this year, Charlie Deutsch’s mount should make up into a decent chaser and connections have found a good opportunity for the gelding to make a winning debut over the bigger obstacles.
The other two horses having their first start over fences are Alan King’s Ski Lodge and Itseemslikeit from the David Pipe stable, with the former a winner over hurdles at Haydock around this time last year and another who should do well now switched to fences.
Recommendation: Sole Solution at 5/2
