Alan Kelly's Tips - Monday, 4 May
Another Bank Holiday Monday with a total of six meetings in Britain along with fixtures at the Curragh and Down Royal in Ireland, none of which take place north of Beverley.
If you live in the north-east, north-west or Scotland and fancy a day at the races, think again. Yet another example of a broken fixture list.
Chester’s May meeting gets underway on Wednesday with the Ladbrokes Chester Cup scheduled to take place at 3.05pm on Friday.
3:33pm Windsor - Crazee Icon
Yet to get her head in front from six starts to date, this looks a good opportunity for Andrew Balding’s top weight CRAZEE ICON to open her account following three promising efforts in handicaps, in which the daughter of Sixties Icon was sent off favourite on each occasion.
Narrowly beaten in nurseries at Chester and Goodwood towards the end of last season, the three-year-old filly, on her first outing for 6 months, was far from disgraced in finishing a two length 5th of 13 at Newmarket’s Craven meeting last month, looking as if she would come on plenty for the run. Dropped 1lb to a mark of 70, Jason Watson’s mount makes plenty of appeal, with David Loughnane’s Jamie Sommers and Jack Channon’s Tough Date feared most.

4:15pm Beverley - Hundred Caps (Nap)
For a horse who likes to race prominently and with a tendency to hang to his right, being drawn lowest of all in stall one has to be a big plus regarding the chances of Julie Camacho’s HUNDRED CAPS (Nap) in this Beverley sprint handicap run over the minimum trip.
When you add the four-year-old’s form figures on the course of 1-2-1, including a victory at this meeting 12 months ago, the mount of Kevin Stott ticks plenty of boxes. The gelding has been running well on the all-weather this year over 6f; back down a furlong and with the aid of a visor for the first time, the son of Showcasing makes plenty of appeal in a race which should take little winning.
I’ve tipped Sam England’s Trilby on his last two starts, so it will probably be a case of third time lucky, or unlucky depending on your point of view, while the veteran Copper Knight is the other one to consider.

4:38pm Fakenham - Esperti
A cracking Bank Holiday Monday jumps card with prize money in excess of £150k, the highlight being the Class 2 Fakenham Grand Prix Handicap Hurdle at 5.13pm. This 3m 5f Norfolk National has attracted a competitive field of 10 runners, including the David Rees-trained hat-trick seeking ESPERTI.
Sean Bowen’s mount (5 from14 over fences) won over today’s course and distance last month before following up at Ffos Las 8 days later. Now running off a career-high chase mark of 105, the nine-year-old still receives between 10lb and 22lb from his rivals and is fancied to continue his winning run.
The ground may not be soft enough for Planned Paradise, one of two runners for trainer Christian Williams, the main dangers to Esperti likely to come in the shape of Ella Pickards’ Stans The Man and Wicked Thoughts from the Paul Nicholls stable.
