Despite four winning naps out of six (4/1, 9/4, 2/1 and 6/4 (10p R4) we ended the week with just a small profit of +£2.35.
This week's action heads to Town Moor for Doncaster’s St Leger meeting which gets underway on Thursday, while over in Ireland it is Champions weekend at Leopardstown (Saturday) and the Curragh (Sunday).

Alan Kelly's Tips - Tuesday, 8 September
Light rain is forecast for the four British meetings taking place on Tuesday, the afternoon Flat cards at Goodwood, Leicester and Catterick, along with Bangor-On-Dee’s evening Jumps fixture.
The ground at all four meetings is expected to ride on the soft side of good.
3:50pm Goodwood - Manxman
The Charlie Johnston-trained Sax Appeal is always liable to do too much when making the running, as was the case when tailed-off in races over today’s course and distance in May and on the gelding’s most recent start on Southwell’s all-weather surface.
If jockey Callum Shepherd can get his mount to conserve his energy on this occasion, the six-year-old would have a big chance of taking this two mile stamina test based on his excellent third when beaten a length in the consolation Northumberland Plate back in June.
Sir Mark Prescott’s Synergism and the Sean Woods-trained Bahadur are closely matched, the pair 3rd and 5th respectively in the Northumberland Plate (Heritage Handicap), although both have subsequently disappointed.
In a tight handicap (9lb covering all of the runners), I like the chance of Simon & Ed Crisford’s top weight MANXMAN. Runner-up when beaten a nose in the controversial Cesarewitch of 2024, William Buick’s mount won a handicap over today’s course and distance last May before ending that year with a close third on heavy ground at the West Sussex racecourse in September.
On his first start for almost a year, Manxman finished a creditable 5th of 16 in the Sky Bet Stayers (Heritage Handicap) at York’s Ebor meeting last month as an unfancied 25/1 chance and is sure to come on plenty with that run under his belt.
Recommendation: Manxman - 13/8 with bet365
5:07pm Leicester - Ricardo Phillips (Nap)
Harry Vigors is one of the most promising young riders around at the moment, the 3lb claimer looking to have a great chance of yet another winner courtesy of Henry Candy’s RICARDO PHILLIPS (Nap) in this mile and a quarter apprentice handicap.
The five-year-old Aclaim gelding has an excellent record on the course with form figures reading 5 (beaten half a length) -2-1-2-1, all off marks ranging from 52 to 55. On his most recent start, Ricardo Phillips made all of the running to record a comfortable victory over today’s course and distance and is fancied to follow-up off a mark only 3lb higher.
Jack Callan is another apprentice with a bright future, and his mount Charencey can give the selection most to do following narrow defeats on the gelding’s last four starts.

6:42pm Bangor - Playful Fox
Local trainer Donald McCain is responsible for 2 of the 6 runners in this extended 2m handicap hurdle, the ex Nicky Henderson-trained mare Eremenko and the hat-trick seeking Roarin’ Success, the former best watched on her second start for the stable and following a wind op and with a tongue-tie on for the first time.
After recording a couple of wins at Stratford during the summer, Roarin’ Success may be in the grip of the handicapper now off a career-high mark of 104. Stuart Edmunds’ top weight Hello Sweety has been running well of late and is not without a chance, while John McConnell’s Irish raider Syosset is worth noting for any market confidence.
The vote, however, goes to the Dan Skelton-trained PLAYFUL FOX, who has done little wrong since dropping back in trip after weakening to finish fourth over 2m 4f at Worcester back in May. Dropping back to today’s trip on his next outing at Stratford a month later, Harry Skelton’s mount beat Sheena West’s Reteti (a winner next time) by half a length with fellow rival Uhtred Ragnarson the same distance back in third place.
Strictly speaking, Alan King’s charge should overturn that form on 9lb better terms. However, Tom Cannon’s mount has been well beaten since and has not always looked a straightforward ride. At the age of 4, and the youngest of the 6 runners, Playful Fox can only improve upon what he has so far achieved for the champion trainer.
