A decent Ebor week with a profit of +£9.53 to a £1 level stake, although things could have been so much better, as luck was certainly not on our side with a total of 8 seconds over the six days.
After trading at 1.01 in running, Almaqam was caught on the post in the International, 14/1 chance French Duke failed by the minimum margin to get up in Friday’s feature handicap, and Hopewell Rock (tipped at 12/1) just lost out in the Ebor after jockey Callum Rodriguez dropped his whip inside the final furlong. A fabulous four days of action on the Knavesmire, but frustrating all the same.

Alan Kelly's Tips - Monday, 24 August
We head to the meetings at Musselburgh in the afternoon and Windsor in the evening for Monday's selections, the going at the Scottish racecourse expected to ride on the soft side of good, while the ground at the Berkshire track is currently described as good to firm, good in places.
2:45pm Musselburgh - Forest Berry
The combination of trainer Sir Mark Prescott and jockey Luke Morris make the long journey north with just the one runner, the two-year-old filly FOREST BERRY in this Class 6 one mile nursery, for which the daughter of Waldgeist will have to carry a 6lb penalty for her victory in a Wolverhampton maiden last week.
Making her handicap debut off a mark of 71 (including the penalty), Forest Berry should be up to conceding the weight to today’s six modest rivals in a race which should take little winning. The selection had previously put up some decent efforts in defeat, in particular when beaten a neck at Chepstow last month over an inadequate trip of 6f.
Best of Forest Berry’s rivals is probably Phillip Makin’s Bluestone Lady, the winner of a nursery here on the final day of last month before failing to follow up under a 6lb penalty on the course a week later.

6:18pm Windsor - Cape Fear
Champion jockey Oisin Murphy has three good rides on the card for bang in form trainer Andrew Balding in his quest for another title, the rider’s best chances possibly those of Nakila Sun in the previous race and CAPE FEAR in this extended 1m 3f handicap.
The Kameko colt has just the one win to his name so far, that coming in a Lingfield novice stakes two months ago, although the three-year-old has been sent off at odds ranging from 4/6 to 10/3 on his last six outings. Cape Fear was probably too keen when only 3rd of 5 at Newmarket’s July meeting (fellow rival Malek Alreeh a tailed-off last ) and while no match for Ian Williams’ Tiger at Chester earlier this month, that was still a fair effort, the winner narrowly beaten at Ayr 6 days later.
The selection has most to fear from last month’s Ripon winner Raulin, now with Gary & Josh Moore after leaving the David O’Meara stable, and the other contender from the classic generation, Charlie Fellowes’ Tai Hang Pegasus, cosy winner of The Brighton Challenge Cup 18 days ago off a 6lb lower mark.

6:48pm Windsor - Buckland Belle (Nap)
Since winning a one mile handicap on this course three months ago, the Ollie Sangster-trained BUCKLAND BELLE (Nap) has been sent off at odds of 11/8, 13/8, 5/4, 4/9 and 11/10 for her next five starts, the daughter of St Mark’s Basilica’s second victory to date coming at Leicester last month on her penultimate outing, the only time tonight’s rider Tom Marquand has been in the saddle.
With Ed Greatrex taking over at Brighton three weeks ago on the fillies’ first attempt at 1m 2f, Buckland Belle looked an unlucky loser when failing to handle the track. After travelling well throughout the race, the filly looked all over the winner when taking the lead a furlong out, only to become unbalanced inside the closing stages after hitting the rails.
Back down in trip, off the same mark of 60, and with Marquand back on board, Buckland Belle can get back to winning ways at the main expense of Charles Hills’ Torbados, who is expected to take the field along in his quest for a first victory on his 12th career start.
