World Snooker Championship - Round 2 Tips

There may have been a smattering of shocks so far in Sheffield, but some of the repeat offenders at the Crucible are safely through to the next round.

This includes former champions Judd Trump, Shaun Murphy and Ronnie O’Sullivan, who will all be looking to add to their combined nine world titles.

They get up and running in round two over the weekend in what are both looking like unmissable ties — but where is the value?

Let’s take a look at some more of the matches that are locked in for round two at the Crucible.

John Higgins (-3.5 handicap) to beat Xiao Guodong

Four-time champion had to hold back the tears after beating Joe O’Connor 10-7 in the opening round.

The Scot’s father-in-law had been taken ill the week before the tournament, so how the 49-year-old was able to play with such control is an example of where his game is at the moment.

His recent wins at the World Open and Tour Championship means he’s one of the form players on the tour, and despite Xiao Guodong’s impressive season on the tour, we’re expecting the Scot to make it through here with some wiggle room.

Hossein Vafaei vs Mark Williams – Over 3.5 Centuries

Once Hossein Vafaei and Mark Williams are settled on the table, there aren’t many better break builders in the game.

The Iranian is maturing on the table year-on-year, and up against a man with the experience of Williams, Vafaei will know he has to play at his very best to get any success.

In a match that has the potential to go to 25 frames, Over 3.5 centuries looks a good selection.

Zhao Xintong – 4+ Centuries vs Lei Peifan

Zhao Xintong’s first round dominance over Jak Jones was one of the most impressive performances of the week so far.

The 28-year-old Chinese player is tipped by many for big things in the game, and this could well to be the tournament where he breaks out.

Lei Peifan took the scalp of Kyren Wilson on Saturday in a thrilling 10-9 win, so we’re not looking to write him off after such an impressive feat.

Instead, a break-building display from Xintong is the way to go – 4 centuries for Xintong is 9/2 with bet365.

Pang Junxu (+4.5 handicap) vs Ronnie O’Sullivan

As good as Ronnie O’Sullivan looked in the second session of his win over Ali Carter, his sticking power over this marathon two weeks of snooker still has to be questioned.

It’s possible that the “Rocket” will burn bright, but quickly, in Sheffield leaving the door open for an underdog to kick through.

Pang Junxu could well be that man in round two.

The Chinese player impressed in his opening round win over Zhang Anda, and has recent success against O’Sullivan beating him 6-4 at the most recent International Championship.

He’s still a bit of a punt to win the match outright at 9/2 with bet365, but giving him a +4.5 frame handicap at Evens looks like a good option.

O’Sullivan is, of course, the better player — but if Pang can be the more consistent, then this won’t be a walkover.

Shaun Murphy vs Judd Trump – Over 22.5 Frames

In the 43 matches these two have played against each other, Judd Trump has come out on top in 30 of them.

That puts the “Ace in the Pack” in good stead to motor towards trying to bag a second world title, but Murphy has a habit of turning up in the big occasions — if not recently at the World Championships.

The last seven meetings have also gone the way of Trump, including a 6-0 and a 5-1, so these shellackings may well hang heavy around the neck of the “Magician” coming into this weekend.

Trump has had another fantastic season and brushed Zhou Yuelong aside in the opener, but if Murphy can start fast then this match may have plenty of legs in it.

We still fancy Trump to get over the line, but there might be a few scares en route.

World Snooker Championship - Outright Tip

It’s hard to look past Wilson or Trump in Sheffield, and this bet is aided by them sitting at opposite ends of the draw.

This season they have combined to win six rankings titles and reach another three finals — it’s hard to think of too many players that this duo wouldn’t start as favourite against throughout the draw.

Their exciting form of snooker means they are both fan-favourites, and with one apiece, a race for that second World Championship crown could boil down to a memorable final at the start of May.

Snooker Betting Markets

A big part of successful snooker betting tips lies in understanding the wide range of best bets available.

Whether you're backing a favourite or looking for value in niche snooker bets, knowing where and how to place your snooker wagers can make all the difference.

Match Winner

One of the most straightforward snooker betting tips is to back the player you believe will win the match - ideal for both novice punters and accumulator betting.

It’s a simple market that doesn’t require deep analysis, making it a great starting point for those new to snooker betting.

Correct Score

Predicting the exact frame score in a match increases risk but offers greater reward - perfect for punters who do detailed form research.

This market is especially appealing in evenly matched contests where past meetings and playing styles can provide valuable clues.

Handicap Betting

Handicap betting sees one player receive a virtual head start to even out the match odds - great for matches with a short-priced favourite.

It’s a smart way to find odds value where the standard match-winner market may offer limited returns.

Frame Betting

Betting on which player will win an individual frame - this market is popular for in-play betting, where where momentum can shift quickly.

Total Frames

Predicting the match length with an over/under bet on the total frames played - a popular betting market in tight contests.

Other Snooker Betting Markets

In addition, there are several niche snooker betting markets for punters to enjoy.

Highest Break

Backing a player to score the highest break in a game is a popular market for those who follow player form closely and understand who’s likely to put together a high-scoring run.

It’s a great option when betting on attacking players known for fluency and confidence at the table.

Outright & Each-Way Betting

Placing a bet on who will win or reach the final in a specific competition, such as who will be crowned World Champion, is known as outright or each-way betting.

This can offer excellent value, especially if placing a pre-event bet, also known as an ante-post wager.

To Pot The First Ball

This market lets you bet which player will pot the first ball in a specific frame or match.

It’s a quick-result market that adds excitement right from the start, and it can be beneficial when following players known for strong break-offs and early scoring.

Century Break Betting

With this snooker betting market, you can bet on whether a player will score a century break (100+ points in one visit) during a match or competition.

You can also wager on the number of century breaks in a match or event.

This market is perfect for those looking for snooker betting tips around high-scoring players or fast-paced matchups.
