Star Sports Review

Not to be confused with the Indian broadcaster sharing the same name, Star Sports was originally founded as Star Racing in 1999, and it was the brainchild of on-course bookmaker Ben Keith.

With a reputation for being a fierce bettor, Keith has spearheaded the company through several changes, and Star Racing was rebranded as Star Sports in 2009. The sports betting product was fully launched in 2018, and it has portrayed itself as a boutique betting company.

Indeed, some parallels that can be drawn with BetGoodwin, which seeks to offer a personalised betting experience to its customers, and bets can be phoned through. Although based in Brighton, Star Sports has a few land-based venues scattered around the Mayfair venue should bettors wish to pop in and place a wager.

Betting with an independent bookmaker such as Star Sports makes customers feel special, and this user-friendly site contains a couple of standout features, such as Price Boosts, which are extremely enticing, and rank well alongside the likes of Paddy Power and Kwiff.

Authorised and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission, this gives the Star Sports sportsbook some credence, and it adheres to the latest security protocols. Although it doesn't specifically state the type of SSL technology it utilises, all bookmakers signed up with the UKGC must adhere to the latest protocols, so bettors will be safe when they sign up to this online bookmaker.

A user-friendly site, Star Sports hasn't landed any industry-based awards, but it has permeated its influence across horse racing and greyhound racing. For horse racing, it has been a noticeable presence at big meets such as Royal Ascot and the Cheltenham Festival.

In terms of greyhound racing, Star Sports is the title sponsor for the English Greyhound Derby, a highlight of the greyhound calendar.

My Star Sports review leaves no stone unturned. I've lifted the lid on all components of the site, from the mobile app offering and markets available to payment options, so you're armed with all the key information before choosing whether to register an account.

User Experience - My Personal View

Uncluttered but minimalistic are two apt words to describe the betting site. That said, it remains smart and professional, so it should strike a tone with bettors. With its blue and white colour scheme, I felt like it bore some resemblance to Coral; however, there were some splashes of yellow to liven things up.

The bulk of adverts are placed on the right-hand side of the page, which was slightly distracting, but that was at the discretion of the coders.

Anyway, this user-friendly site provided uncomplicated navigation. I was particularly impressed with the scope and depth of golf betting markets plugged, but fear not, I have thrashed out some more details later on.

Navigating my way to various areas of the desktop version of Star Sports was generally seamless, which wasn't always the case with other bookmakers I used. Speed is paramount for assessing the quality of a sports betting site, and on the whole, Star Sports delivers. Okay, the font could have been a bit more uniform, but that's a minor grumble.

In terms of core features, I was disheartened not to see Favourites, seeing as most operators worth their salt facilitate this. However, the Price Boosts were something to savour. They go deeper in some cases than Paddy Power or Betfred for popular leagues, where odds were lengthened from 6/1 to 8/1, which is pretty decent.

However, what grabbed my attention was the Star Sports Extra blog. This was continually updated, and while some of the best bookmakers around, such as BetVictor and bet365 try to compete, Star Sports Extra packs a punch here. Previews and betting tips were posted as well as features from the site's ambassadors, including Davy Russell, are worth checking out for the latest insights.

I also appreciated the Hedging product offered to bookmakers. Star Sports describes itself as "exclusive" and "discrete" and it wishes to distances itself from bland chains. The hedging facility was unique as it help bookmakers reduce their exposure, and this wasn't found elsewhere.

Star Sports offered some strong cross-platform performance, however, I think there were a few glaring oversights, such as a lack of Early Payout deals, often classed as 1Up or 2Up, or enhanced accas available at Parimatch.

I also believe the betting promos available needed to be a bit more prominent on the page. Promos are a selling point, and a quick link on the menu would have sufficed.

Mobile Betting Experience

Although the Star Sports betting site has some appeal, I found the mobile counterpart to be a bit more versatile. There weren't any major differences between the mobile site and the desktop product, but Star Sports works slightly better on the go.

There is a Star Sports app, and while it only gained an average of 3.3 stars out of 5 for its iOS app, only 28 reviews have been published to date, so not much to go by. However, if you are after a thrilling in play betting experience, Star Sports should be your first port of call.

The stylish Football Manager-style graphics were inviting, and strangely, I didn't mind that there wasn't stats info supplied like I would at say Virgin Bet or LiveScoreBet. The key flashpoints were denoted for tennis, such as a double fault, so that suited me.

Star Sports offers instant Cash Out which can be used across desktop and mobile products, but I liked the icon displaying when prices were drifting or shortening, so bettors can make value wagers if they are concerned about potential returns.

The only other thing that left me frustrated with the mobile app was the lack of direct link to the cashier for making deposits and withdrawals, but the banking section, as you will learn, isn't one of its core strengths.

Star Sports Betting Markets & Odds

Star Sports is on a level footing with many of the other top UK bookmakers, with 26 sporting disciplines to wager on. However, compared to more modern sites, such as Bzeebet and Bet442 that push the boat out to around 40, then that seems a bit meagre on Star Sports' part.

Nevertheless, there is decent American sports coverage, especially with ice hockey listed. For example, I could wager on the Stanley Cup winner for the 2025/26 season, and the range of outrights were pleasing.

However, as mentioned before, I was astounded by the depth of golf betting lines posted. For any PGA Tour or DP World Tour event, you could wager on round markets, outrights, and much more, which puts it on an even keel with bet365 which are also scrupulous. As a golf fan, I relished this as I crave variety.

Typically, the odds overround suggested the prices available were competitive compared to other operators, but I was flummoxed by the lack of combo bets available for football.

That said, I liked the personalised bet builder feature, and you can create your own. For Premier League betting on matches, you can team up Correct Score with goals Over/Under for the first half which wasn't too bad. However, other sites such as William Hill and BetMGM offer a few more player props, so it could rectify this moving forward.

While the live betting product stood tall, and the horse racing betting part appealed with Best Odds Guaranteed, I feel Star Sports missed out on not offering eSports.

Most UK betting sites have recognised the importance of eSports, and these are equipped with a Twitch live stream, so players can watch and bet on the biggest competitions.

On that note, apart from horse racing, I feel that Star Sports needs to supplement its resplendent live betting platform with more streams to get more eyeballs on the site. I'm hoping that will change in the future.

Star Sports Sign Up Offer and Promotions

The Star Sports promotions were largely lacking. They were more scarce than easyBet, which has got its act into gear with some more innovative offers. From what I saw, Star Sports' offers are limited to free bets, which are included in the welcome offer as well as the deal for existing customers.

Oh, and there was no loyalty program to speak of at Star Sports which was disappointing, but perhaps this will be addressed moving forward.

Star Sports Welcome Bonus Review โ€“ Bet ยฃ50 Get ยฃ25 in Free Bets

Star Sports' new customer offer comprises ยฃ25 in free bets when they wager ยฃ50. While it's not the strongest offer around considering some sites provide more in free bets, you won't want to turn your nose up at it.

This offer applies to all sports markets and to singles. It carries minimum betting odds of EVENS, but you only have seven days to make use of it before it expires, so hurry!

What is the Star Sports Betting Promo Code?

The Star Sports promo code for the new offer is BET50GET25, and you will need to apply this when registering an account.

Customer Service at Star Sports

Star Sports' customer service is conspicuous, given it lacks a live chat facility, so it dropped a few marks here. Instead, you can get in touch via phone and speak to a member of the dedicated customer support team, which was pleasing, as that isn't the case at other sites. Queries were dealt with effectively, putting me at ease. I could also reach out via social media through X, so that's also a good option if you wish to send a DM.

There was an FAQs section, but I wasn't too impressed. Rather than being split up into individual topic areas, there were just a few questions posted, and the answers provided were brief, so room for improvement here.

Responsible Gambling at Star Sports

Star Sports endorses safer and responsible gambling, and problem players can undertake a short questionnaire before using the following tools to get their habits under control:

  • Deposit limits - Players can set betting limits through their account, and these limits can be adjusted at any time. Increases will be facilitated after a 24-hour cooling period.
  • Play Break - Star Sports' equivalent of a Reality Check, players will be restricted to certain features, such as depositing or placing bets, for up to six weeks.
  • Self-Exclusion - Players angling for a longer break can do so, and their accounts will be closed for a minimum of six months, so they can get things under control.

Star Sports is a UKGC-licensed site, so it adheres to the latest SSL protocols, and the site works with reputable organisations, such as GamCare and Gambling Therapy to give problem players practical advice. Meanwhile, Star Sports allows players to modify their cookie settings, so they can choose what promo material they receive, and there is a strict privacy policy in place, although information may be shared at times with trusted third parties.

My Verdict

Overall, Star Sports has plenty of pleasing points, including a comprehensive news blog, regular price boosts, and a smorgasbord of odds for horse racing and golf events to keep punters happy.

However, I was disappointed with the lack of ongoing promotional offers, given the free bets deal required a big deposit, while the customer service area ought to have a live chat facility.

That said, if you plan to use the Star Sports mobile or desktop site, and you're a big racing fan, this will be the optimal bookie for you.
