This Year’s Match

  • Chelsea v Villarreal – Wednesday, August 11, 2021
  • Kick-off – 20:00
  • Windsor Park, Belfast

After winning their second Champions League title at the end of the 2020-21 season, Chelsea look to add the Super Cup to their growing trophy collection against Europa League winners, Villarreal.

Both Chelsea and Villarreal were respective underdogs in their European finals last season, with Chelsea overcoming Manchester City in Portugal and Villarreal sneaking past Manchester United on penalties in France.

This is the fourth time that the Blues will contest the Super Cup having won it in 1998, and lost in attempts in 2012 and 2013.

Villarreal are making their debut in the European curtain raiser, but in Unai Emery they have an experienced coach that is used to winning trophies.

Windsor Park in Belfast will host this season’s Super Cup as both teams look to make the perfect start to their 2021-22 campaigns.
