The US Open is one of golf’s major championships, bringing the very best players together to compete for one of the biggest and most prestigious prizes in the sport.

In 2023, the US Open will take place in June, starting on Thursday 15th June and ending with the final round on Sunday 18th June.

US Open Betting Tips

The golfing landscape will feel distinctly different when the players tee it up for the US Open this week.

Los Angeles Country Club has the honour of hosting the tournament for the first time this week, but the contentious merging of the PGA Tour and LIV will certainly have ruffled a few feathers.

Aside from the PGA missteps, the Canadian Open provided a thrilling finish last week as Tommy Fleetwood was edged out in a play-off.

Naturally, the homegrown talent of Brooks Koepka and Scottie Scheffler you imagine, will be in contention, but the absence of Tiger Woods is worth noting.

We can’t wait for the first round to get underway, and we will be glued to the action. In particular, the 3:40pm BST tee time will be worth keeping tabs on, as it features Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas, and Fleetwood.

But how will things unfold? I have kept you abreast of everything to look out for, providing a full preview as well as a few tips to accompany them.

Jon Rahm to come up with the goods

After a quiet week by his inexorably high standards at the PGA Championship last month, Jon Rahm is one of the most feared stars on the Tour, and when he’s red-hot with the putter, he can be unstoppable.

He has packed in a lot of golf over the first half of the season, and he had a solid week at the Memorial earlier this month when he came home in T16.

Rahm has already chalked up four wins in 2023, and he is topping the performance metrics for eagles per hole and birdie average.

While at first glance, there may not seem much value in Rahm, he’s available at 9/1 with bet365 to tuck another major under his belt and recover from his apparent post Masters lull.

Justin Rose to continue upward trend

You can never completely rule out Justin Rose, but since his US Open triumph 10 years ago, the Majors have eluded him.

That said, the Englishman is always a joy to watch and he can continue flourishes of brilliance with his iron play.

Accuracy will be king this week with its undulating greens and tight pin positions, but Rose will be undaunted.

He should comfortably make it through to the weekend, and a top-10 finish could well beckon.

If you like the sound of that, then I have sided with the price of 4/1 served up by Paddy Power for that to materialise.

No extra time required

This week will provide a fascinating test, and a cursory glance at past US Opens suggests that somewhere in the -6 region could be a winning score.

Indeed, the past three winners have all wound up with a total of -6 to clinch the title.

I have been a bit bolder with my final pick and used the winning margin section which can be found at William Hill.

They are offering a tempting price of 11/2 for the margin of victory to be three strokes.

About the US Open

New to the US Open? We’ve got the basics you need right here, so you can get started and place your bets on the tournament.

Course Information

The 2023 US Open will take place at the Los Angeles Country Club, California. It will be played on the North Course at this venue, the main course that is available at the country club.

The course is over 7,400 yards long, and will play as a par 70 for the tournament. Don’t be surprised to see drama at the finish, with three daunting par 4s to end things, all over 500 yards in length, and could ultimately decide who lifts the trophy on Sunday.

Format

The US Open is a 72-hold stroke play event, with one round played on each of the four days. After the first two days, a cut is made, eliminating the worst performing players before the weekend action.

Over the final two days, the remaining players will continue to battle it out, until the tournament ends on Sunday, and the player with the best cumulative score over four days is declared as the winner.
