Jamie Vardy Next Club Odds: Is Wrexham on the Cards?

Jamie Vardy has announced that he will leave Leicester at the end of the season, bringing an end to a famous 13-year stay at the club.
Vardy was an integral part of the famous Premier League win in 2015-16, scoring 24 league goals and scored in a record-breaking 11 games in a row, but will move on following the club's relegation from the league this season.
He currently has 198 goals for the club and 143 in the Premier League, making him the third most prolific player in the club's history and a genuine legend at the King Power Stadium.
It won't be long until UK betting sites price up the most likely next destination for the former England striker, but who do we think might be a good fit for the 38-year-old?
Wrexham
Whenever a fading top level player is linked with a move away, it's always Wrexham who come into the conversation.
That's probably no surprise given their ambition and the make up of their squad - Steven Fletcher and James McClean are two players of a similar profile at the club, and Ben Foster has been and gone - but Jamie Vardy feels like another level altogether.
If they get promoted this season it feels like this rumour could have legs. Think about it, aside from the obvious quality he has in front of goal, what better player to bring to the club and bring in even more eyeballs to the famous documentary?
The Vardy story has Hollywood written all over it, and you get the feeling he would love being in front of the cameras and being part of the whole Wrexham experience - you might think it would appeal to his whole family, too.
He is still fit as a fiddle, but presumably would ask for big wages and can he justify those in a 46-game season next year? Who knows, but it's a partnership you could easily see happening.
Sheffield Wednesday
Everyone knows about Vardy's backstory. He is the non-league player who came good, plucked from nowhere before eventually moving from Fleetwood to Leicester and then going on to become one of the great strikers of the last decade.
But it all started when he was released by Sheffield Wednesday as a teenager, and it would be poetic ending to a pretty poetic career if he finished at Hillsborough.
He remains a Wednesday fan so there will certainly be a pull there, but given the current ownership issues and ongoing problems at the club it is hard to see how they would manage to finance such a deal, even if both sides are relatively willing.
In other circumstances you could see this happening, but it just doesn't feel like the timing is right for Vardy to move home.
MLS
A lucrative end-of-career move to the MLS has always appealed to English players, and you would suspect Vardy will be no different.
Given the off-field issues his family has had in recent years, a move to the US could be just what is needed and give him the chance to see out his playing days at a respectable standard.
Bearing in mind the next World Cup is in the US and Mexico, it would be a great time for MLS to recruit more internationally recognised players and a great time to be involved over there as an ambassador for the sport.
It would be a lucrative move and you suspect that might be quite high up in the list of priorities for this next move for a player who has achieved more than he would have possibly dreamed of in the UK.
Saudi Arabia
Talking of lucrative, it wouldn't be transfer speculation without the Saudi Pro League popping up.
The links aren't quite as regular as they were a couple of years ago, but they can undoubtedly still flex some muscle and offer huge financial deals to players.
I would suspect that life in Saudi Arabia may not appeal to Vardy and his family so I think this is pretty unlikely, but if he is seeking one more payday and a year of lower-intensity football, why not?
Given everything he has achieved over the last 13 years, it would be hard to argue with the decision.
Anyone else?
There will undoubtedly be other people sniffing around Vardy this summer, but you would suspect he will be quite selective in going through his options.
It's hard to see him staying in the Premier League - even on a pay-as-you-play deal - and even the Championship looks a push unless it involves one of the clubs already mentioned.
The one other move I could actually see happening if it wasn't for his history with them and support of their city rivals is Sheffield United. It won't happen, clearly, but it's not hard to see him working with someone like Chris Wilder.
If Vardy is tempted by a move to Wrexham, you expect that promotion would play a massive part in being able to tempt him to the Racecourse Ground.
They have a huge game against Charlton this weekend, and with plenty more going on in the Football League at the moment make sure you keep up with Gab Sutton's EFL betting tips in the coming weeks.
