Next Blackburn Manager: The Contenders
There's plenty of Blackburn connections amongst the list we have.
Tony Mowbray stands as having the biggest connection, managing Blackburn for a five year period.
Elsewhere, Damien Duff spent time at the club as a player. Further down the betting list, other names include more with a connection to the club, at big odds, such as Jon Dahl Tomasson, Lee Carsley and even Phil Jones.
Tony Mowbray
Mowbray managed the club from 2017-2022, guiding them to League One promotion in 2018. Most recently, he managed Birmingham City and West Brom, both in the Championship.
Known for his attacking football philosophy, Mowbray has extensive Championship experience. He remains highly regarded by Blackburn fans for his successful tenure at Ewood Park.
David Wagner
Wagner has no Blackburn connection but boasts Premier League experience, famously getting and then keeping Huddersfield Town up in 2017-18. Most recently managed Norwich City until May 2024.
The German-American coach also led Schalke in the Bundesliga and had a spell at Young Boys in Switzerland. Known for his high pressing style developed under Jürgen Klopp's influence at Borussia Dortmund.
Slaven Bilic
Bilic also has no Blackburn history but brings significant managerial pedigree. Currently out of work, he's mixed the English game, West Ham, West Brom and Watford, with Saudi Arabia and China, for a very unusual CV.
The former Croatian defender combines tactical knowledge with promotion winning experience in the Championship, making him an attractive candidate for ambitious second-tier clubs.
Damien Duff
Duff played for Blackburn from 2003-2006, making over 100 appearances as a skilful winger. He most recently managed Shelbourne in Ireland, where he won the League of Ireland Premier Division title in 2024, their first in 18 years.
Always touted as one to come over to the UK and try to manage here, he has spent some time working for FIFA since departing Shelbourne. As a player, Duff enjoyed success at Chelsea, Newcastle and Fulham and represented Ireland 100 times internationally.
