Grand Slam of Darts Preview, Betting Tips & Latest Odds

The 2025 Grand Slam of Darts gets underway this week, as one of the PDC’s major tournaments returns to the spotlight in Wolverhampton, and here at Free Bets we're ready and excited!
Unlike most of darts’ headline events, the Grand Slam opens with a group-stage format, featuring 32 qualifiers split into eight groups of four.
Each player faces their three group opponents once, with the top two advancing to the last 16, where the competition shifts into a straight knockout.
Grand Slam of Darts Preview
Luke Littler enters as the defending champion, having stormed to a commanding 16–3 victory over Martin Lukeman in the 2024 final — a performance that underlined his rapid rise and remarkable composure on the big stage.
Most of the big guns return to Wolverhampton this year, but the tournament rarely runs to script — there’s always a twist somewhere.
Last year, Luke Humphries found that out the hard way, failing to make it out of his group after a shock loss to Rowby-John Rodriguez. He’d eased past Mickey Mansell 5–1, but a defeat to James Wade sealed his fate. In a remarkable turn, it was Mansell who emerged from the group instead, after toppling both Wade and Rodriguez, before going on a stunning run to the semi-finals.
But saying that, we haven’t had a shock winner of the event since Portugal’s Jose de Sousa scooped the prize in 2020.
Grand Slam of Darts Tips: Outright Picks
Let’s take a look at some of the best betting tips for the event starting on Saturday.
- Tip 1: Gerwyn Price to win outright - 8/1
- Tip 2: Gain Van Veen to win Group F - 11/8
- Tip 3: Niko Springer to win Group G - 11/2
Tip 1: Gerwyn Price to win the Grand Slam of Darts at 8/1
The draw has been kind to Gerwyn Price as he looks to recapture the form that brought him his last televised ranking title — at this very tournament in 2021.
A three-time Grand Slam champion, the Iceman thrives in long-format events that test stamina as much as skill, and that endurance could once again prove to be his edge.
Price shares his group with an in-form James Wade, but both will back themselves to progress ahead of Ricky Evans and Stefan Bellmont. Should he advance, the path leads to a quarter-final crossover with Group C, which includes Stephen Bunting, Martin Schindler, Luke Woodhouse, and Asian qualifier Alexis Toylo.
It’s not without its challenges, but the key detail for Price is the layout of the draw: while Luke Humphries sits in the same half, they can’t meet before the semi-finals.
A showdown with Luke Littler — who’s edged him out in last-leg thrillers at both the World Series Finals and World Grand Prix — would only be possible if both make the final.
All year long, Price has hovered on the brink of another major breakthrough.
Tip 2: Gian van Veen to win Group F at 11/8
Fresh from his maiden major PDC title at the European Championships, Gian van Veen will be hoping to convert his form into more silverware.
But the world number seven will need to be sharp from the off, having been handed a familiar challenge.
For the second year running, he finds himself grouped with World Cup winner Josh Rock and fellow Dutch prospect Wessel Nijman, alongside Women’s Matchplay champion Lisa Ashton.
But if the Dutchman is able to carry over a slither of his form from Dortmund, then a group win is well within his reach.
Tip 3: Niko Springer to win Group G at 11/2
Even with Michael van Gerwen showing flashes of his best again, Group G feels like anyone’s to claim.
The Green Machine and Gary Anderson are understandably favoured, but both Beau Greaves and Niko Springer have the game to shake things up, maybe even top the group.
Greaves arrives just weeks removed from her win over Luke Littler in the World Youth Championship semi-finals, while Springer’s breakthrough European Tour triumph in Hungary — which included a victory over Luke Humphries — underlined his growing threat.
Nothing in this group would register as a shock, and with momentum on his side, Springer looks the value pick to upset the odds.
