Charlie McCann's Tips - Tuesday, 3 November
3:48pm Warwick - Ballymoreen
Kentucky River has won two of his last three starts over hurdles for Olly Murphy – including here back in June – and is still well handicapped on his flat form. He was last seen finishing down the field at Glorious Goodwood, but this is more his grade, and he is unexposed as a staying hurdler.
Kittys Charm has not been out of the frame in her six starts since March, winning a couple, including at Newton Abbot over this 2m5f trip from a 5lbs lower mark back in September.
The vote, however, goes to the Emma Lavelle-trained BALLYMOREEN who barely came off the bridle when scoring at Fontwell last month. That was a weaker race, and she has been raised 10lbs, but she looked well ahead of her mark, and Harry Cobden keeps the ride. That Fontwell success came on good to soft ground, and her Bumper success in her native Ireland came on similar ground. The hope is that there is sufficient give.
Recommendation: Ballymoreen - 5/2 with bet365
12:44pm Sedgefield - Luminaries
LUMINARIES was caught close to home having tried to make all at Newcastle over 3m a week ago, jumping well. The nine-year-old has won over an extended 3m over hurdles and was beaten a length and a half – staying on – when second over 3m3f here over timber back in first-time blinkers back in September.
Jeteye likes to go forward, and I expect Charlie Maggs to take a lead on the selection who jumped well at Gosforth Park and receives 17lbs from Jeteye, although the latter’s conditional jockey Rebecca Hitchens takes off a valuable 7lbs on the latter, who will relish underfoot conditions described as good on Monday morning.
Hitchens may get a soft lead on Jeteye, and she has ridden three winners from just twelve rides over hurdles this term. She is yet to ride a chase winner but has only had one ride over the larger obstacles when finishing second.
I put up Lights Are Green a fortnight ago and he ran no race whatsoever. It would sum up our recent form if he became a different proposition today, but it really was a laboured effort.
Recommendation: Luminaries - 6/4 with Ladbrokes

2:47pm Lingfield - Myrighthandman (Each-Way) (Nap)
Away For The Night has won two of his last three and showed guts to get back up, having walked through the second last, at Worcester last time. He is open to further improvement with form figures of 2-1-2-1 over fences, with both defeats coming on right-hand tracks.
Superstylin has an excellent record fresh and won first time out at Worcester last term, albeit from a 19lbs lower mark – twenty-two if you include Freddie Gordon’s claim. That was the first of his three wins last season – two at Fontwell over further – although it should be noted that he hasn’t raced over the minimum distance since December, when second over today’s course and distance – beaten just over a length – from a 12lbs lower mark.
Tom Lacey has not saddled a winner in his last twenty runners and stable form is a concern, but the winning pointer MYRIGHTHANDMAN (Each-Way) (Nap) will, hopefully, be a different proposition to the one who finished last of five at Newton Abbot on chase debut.
The selection cannot beat the third Reteti on the revised terms given he is just 3lbs for the 5l+ he was behind the third last month, but he jumped superbly in rear and was never put into the race by Stan Shepherd. I will be disappointed if he cannot reverse the form with that run under his belt.
This winning pointer is lightly raced under rules – finished second at Catterick over timber – and he had been a shade keen when not getting home at Taunton (11/10 fav) over 2m3f when last seen back in April.
His point form is nothing special, and he only cost £35,000 after that success in the spring of 2025, but he is rated 4lbs lower over fences than timber yet has the potential to be much better over the larger obstacles. Stable form is a concern, but I will be surprised if the five-year-old is not rated much higher than his current mark come the end of the campaign.
Recommendation: Myrighthandman (Nap) (Each-Way) - 8/1 with bet365

Horse racing has long been Charlie's passion - ironic, really, as he'll never pass the vet again, as sports injuries have come back to bite - with a specialism in handicap chases over jumps and 1m+ handicaps on the level.
