Now available in the UK, direct from the U S of A, BetMGM are making a splash. Reviewed at a time when they are fresh on the market, I don’t have much background information about the brand, but I’m expecting them to be typically American, bright lights, big offers and plenty of yelling about how good they are.

Overview

Founded back in 2018, a venture between MGM Resorts International and Entain, BetMGM first hit the market in the USA, when gambling was made legal in selected states.

But now it’s time for them to go global, and that led to a UK launch in 2023.

If you want to know how seriously BetMGM are taking their UK service, famous names such as Chris Rock and Megan Nicholls have been signed up as brand ambassadors for the company.

While we are seeing many familiar brands heading over to the US, this move is the opposite, and that’s created plenty of excitement.

Sign Up Process

To keep things nice and simple and get us underway on the right footing, I’ve condensed the sign-up process into three simple and easy-to-follow steps.

1

Press on the Claim Offer button to go to the BetMGM website.

2

Press on the Sign Up button on the top-right corner.

3

Fill in your personal details, verify your account and enjoy betting with BetMGM.

How to Claim the BetMGM Welcome Bonus

BetMGM

Bet £10, Get £60 in Free Bets

There’s two elements to my thoughts on the BetMGM welcome bonus. Firstly, I find the welcome bonus easy to claim, and I like that.

Secondly, there’s a lot to digest when it comes to the bonus you receive, what it is and how you get it. It’s not as simple as getting £40 in free bets, though of course, this is a great offer in terms of the amount you get, so that should always be expected.

Let’s cover how to claim the bonus in three steps first.

1

Press on the Claim Offer button to go to the BetMGM website.

2

Deposit and place a qualifying £10 fixed odds bet at odds of 1/1 (2.0) or greater.

3

When it settles, unlock £40 in Free Bets!

Now, let’s look at what you have to do and what you receive in return.

Firstly, the bet you place to get the offer must be £10 or more, and it must be at odds of 1/1 (2.00) or greater. Finally, the bet must be placed within seven days of opening your account, so make sure you have something to bet on, when you open up.

Bet £10 Get £20 + 50 Free Spins

Claim Offer

Onto what you receive in return now, which is £60 in free bets and they are credited when your qualifying bet is settled. I love this, it’s a huge amount, although as you can imagine, there are stipulations attached to the offer, because it’s so big.

Here is how you will receive the free bets:

  1. 1 x £10 Horse Racing Free Bet (singles + upwards with minimum odds of 1/1 or 2.0).
  2. 2 x £10 Free Bet Builder (minimum odds 3/1 or 4.0).
  3. 1 x £10 Football Free Bet (minimum odds 1/1 or 2.0).
  4. 2 x Free £10 Acca (minimum odds 1/1 or 2.0 and a minimum of 3 selections).

To use the free bet, enter your selections into the bet slip, making sure they qualify for one of the options above, stake £10 and tick the free bet box. You have seven days to spend these free bets, which begins from the moment they are added to your account.

I felt this to be quite strict in comparison to others. The four £10 free bets you receive are all specific in some way, either by sport or by the bet type you are allowed to place, and they all have a minimum odds requirement on top of this too.

The fact you get £40 in free bets when you deposit and bet £10 is fantastic. But the trade off is that the free bets are given in a specific way. I have no problems with this, but people need to fully understand what they are getting beforehand.

If you like racing, football and accas, you will be fine with this. But, for example, a cricket fan, this offer will take them onto placing bets on sports they potentially don’t watch, or alternatively, giving them free bets they are not going to use.

BetMGM: My Opinion

It’s rare I get to review a brand without have some prior knowledge and an idea of what to expect, but that was the case here. Yes, my expectations were high, because I knew the brand name from the US, but other than that, I didn’t really have much idea what else was to follow.

Overall, as a simple analysis, I really like what this brand have on offer. I feel they talk to me, they have excellent promotions for existing customers, a big part of my betting, and they have a very extensive sportsbook, covering everything you can think of, and more.

Odds here are good, without being standout, and betting is simple to do, on both desktop and mobile, with the ability to easily add selections into your bet slip, and then get the wager on.

Every element of the mobile app is good, with the exception of how you browse the smaller sports, this isn’t easy, and could be improved by showing them on a better menu view. Having said that, some people may never encounter this at all.

The support team are there 24/7, perfect, regardless of when you need them. The live chat option is the only option, and depending on the type of person you are, you will have your view on this. Adding a phone number, even if it’s not available 24/7, would be a big step forward in my opinion.

Lastly, a quick look at the deposit and withdrawal methods here and you may think they seem small compared to others. Just three options are available, but the positive is that they are the three main options, and will cover the needs of most players, without the confusing list of small, niche payment options that some players may never have heard of.

I’ll round off by saying the customer promotions here, and the depth of the sportsbook on offer, are the two big positives that I love, and are both things I find quite valuable when I’m searching for a brand.

Betting Markets & Odds

In an incredibly expansive sportsbook, BetMGM had 34 different betting sports and options available, including TV betting and politics, at the time of my review, you can see what is available in the table below.

American FootballAussie Rules
BadmintonBandy
BaseballBasketball
BoxingChess
CricketCycling
DartseSports
FloorballFootball
Formula 1Golf
GreyhoundsHandball
Horse RacingLacrosse
MotorsportsOlympics
PoliticsRowing
Rugby LeagueRugby Union
SnookerSurfing
Table TennisTennis
TV SpecialsUFC
VolleyballWinter Sports

I was really impressed with the coverage on offer from the brand. They go deep, and into various smaller niches, the likes of bandy, chess and surfing are just some examples of this, sports that some other betting sites will not offer you.

So if you are looking for the ultimate when it comes to choice, or you are looking for a very particular small, niche sport, then BetMGM is definitely made with you in mind.

As a big US Sports fan myself, and knowing this is a big US brand, I had to take a deep dive into their coverage of all things American, and was pleasantly surprised.

Taking a look down the upcoming NHL games I found crowd pleasing markets, such as anytime scorers and even something referred to as ‘pre-packs’ which are essentially ready-made same game combos, to save you the time of creating your own bet builder.

I couldn’t find any fault with the sports and markets on offer.

Now, let’s move onto the odds available here. It’s very difficult for brands to really stand out as being the best around for odds, many companies have almost identical odds nowadays, with only small fractional differences.

I compared five Premier League football games, looking at the win market, so a total of 15 different betting options. From these, BetMGM had the joint best odds available on three of the 15 options, with two of these coming in the same game.

You can find the details of this test below.

BetMGM OddsBest Odds
Burnley - 5/6Burnley - 17/20
Draw - 27/10Draw - 27/10
Sheffield Utd - 15/4Sheffield Utd - 15/4

Overall, when it comes to the odds, I don’t think BetMGM are standout the best you can get anywhere, but they are very competitive, and this is the case for the vast majority of bookmakers now.

What does enhance the odds here though, is the promotions that I’m just about to go through, add these to your bets, and this is how you get bigger payouts here.

Promotions

Regular promotions are crucial to find with your bookmaker. I say this in a lot of my reviews, but if you want long term value, after the free bets have gone, then find an existing customer promotion tailored to your betting needs.

The great news is that there’s a few to choose from here with BetMGM, I like what they have on offer, and many people should be able to take advantage.

The main reason I like these is because although some are specific, they cover the most popular sports, they are available on a daily basis, and simply give you the chance to win more money by topping up your bet returns with a boost.

Check out the promotions below, which were live at the time of writing, and are a great way to claim further value while betting.

Golden Acca

If you’re a player who likes to place accumulator bets, then this promotion is for you. Acca boosts on the site come in fives, opt in for this offer to receive five acca boosts to use that week, and at the start of each week, you get five more.

The five boosts come like this:

  • 1 x 10% Profit Boost – 3 selections per acca
  • 1 x 20% Profit Boost – 4 selections per acca
  • 1 x 30% Profit Boost – 5 selections per acca
  • 1 x 40% Profit Boost – 6 selections per acca
  • 1 x 50% Profit Boost – 7 selections per acca

Boosts are available to use Monday to Sunday, maximum stake on the bet is £20, with minimum odds on each selection of 1/5 (1.20). Finally, the maximum win is £1,000 per boost.

BetMGM

Golden Acca - Up to 5 Profit Boosts Each Week

Many brands are doing some form of acca boost, so it’s great to see BetMGM doing this too. The fact you get five is great, if there’s one small issue some may have it’s the number of selections. For many people, accas are kept the same, for example, five selections, do this and you can only get the boost once, unless you change how you bet.

But in terms of an offer, it gives you the chance to earn additional profit, with quite a big cap limit, money you wouldn’t get with some other brands, so no complaints there.

Golden Silks

If you love horse racing, then this is one of the better horse racing promotions I have seen on the market, so definitely worth checking out. Throughout the week, BetMGM will give you 10 price boosts, which you can place to increase your returns by as much as 20%.

This is a great offer, designed for the regular racing punter, and best of all, it refreshes every week, so you can keep coming back and claiming your boosts.

BetMGM

Golden Silks - Weekly Profit Boosts on Horse Racing

Here’s how the price boosts are given:

  • Monday = 10% Profit Boost
  • Tuesday = 10% Profit Boost
  • Wednesday = 10% Profit Boost
  • Thursday = 10% Profit Boost
  • Friday = 2 x 10% Profit Boost
  • Saturday = 2 x 20% Profit Boost
  • Sunday = 2 x 20% Profit Boost

You will need to opt in to receive these, and they are available each week on bets you place. The bets must be singles, the maximum stake allowed is £20, and the maximum win is £10,000.

This offer runs every day of the week, which I see as a great positive, and to make it even better, there are more boosts for players at a weekend, when the best racing takes place, and more people watch.

If you are a regular horse racing punter and bet on singles, then this really is a great offer which you can use to your advantage every day, every week!

Golden Boosts

This is another offer I like, yes, it is limited to specific markets on specific dates, but gives you the chance to earn up to 100% as a profit boost on your bets, and there are boosts every single day of the week.

Even if you don’t claim them all, and just go with the ones that fit into your current betting pattern, you are still getting a regular chance to win more profit on your bet, than what you’d get elsewhere.

The boosts available are the following:

  • Monday = 100% Profit Boost (Bet Builder)
  • Tuesday = 100% Profit Boost (Accumulator)
  • Wednesday = 100% Profit Boost (Single Bet)
  • Thursday = 50% Profit Boost (Horse Racing)
  • Friday = 50% Profit Boost (Horse Racing)
  • Saturday = 100% Profit Boost (Football Bet Builder)
  • Sunday = 50% Profit Boost (Football)

You will need to opt in to receive these, the maximum stake on these bets is £5, and the maximum win amount is £1,000. This means smaller limits than some other offers, but the percentage of boost on these is much higher, 100% in four out of the seven, which makes them very appealing.

Golden Goals

Lastly, for the promotions, I have to mention the Golden Goals game on BetMGM. This is a free to play game for customers, where you predict the score in six games each week.

BetMGM

Golden Goals - Predict 6 Correct Scores and Win £2 Million

The jackpot prize is a massive £2 million, while if that’s not won, the person or people with the most right will share a £5,000 prize. Taking place each week of the season, this is a great, free way to give yourself a bet to follow on the football, with a lifechanging sum of money as the jackpot prize.

Opt in to take part and make your picks each week of the season to play along with the free game.

Mobile App

Mobile betting is incredibly important, the home for the majority of gamblers now, either via a mobile site or the downloadable app.

BetMGM offer a mobile app to their players, for Android this can be downloaded from the Play Store while iOS users can get this from the Apple App Store.

After downloading and logging in, the app instantly had a familiar feel about it, and that was just after using the desktop site to sign up and browse. I think that’s a testament to how BetMGM have got their branding and feel spot on.

I’ve had a think about the bets I’ve placed, and my feeling is that the app is far easier to use if you are betting on one of the major sports. For example, even when you press on ‘all sports’, you are given football by default, so for a football fan, that’s great.

To get to something such as the snooker, to use an example, you have to press on ‘all sports’ then press on ‘all’ again, and then scroll down an alphabetically ordered list. Fine for American football, but not so good for those betting on volleyball.

The bottom bar has quick links into many of the main sections on the site, including ‘my bets’ so you are always just one press away from seeing the bets you’ve already placed, I like that.

The app is fast, the colours are good, the betting markets are shown clearly, with a two-tier menu along the top of the page, so that when you are inside a game, you can select firstly the type of market, and then secondly the specific betting angle you want to go with.

When you select the bet you want, this is added to your betslip, and when ready to place the wager, you can enter your stake and choose the type of bet here.

I think this is a very good app, but what would take this to the next level is if there was a better way to display all sports. For some, this won’t matter, as your sport will be listed immediately.

But using the volleyball example above, which is the worst case scenario, it takes two presses on the menu plus multiple scrolls before you can actually select volleyball, and then begin to search through the leagues and competitions for what you want.

Customer Support

I am going to give you the facts about the BetMGM customer support team, and them my thoughts around it, but what I will also add here is that depending on the type of person you are, will determine how much you like their support option.

There is just one way to contact the support team at BetMGM and that is via the live chat service available on their site. This is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so it doesn’t matter when you have a problem, someone will be on hand to help out, if you need them.

My opinion of this is that I love the fact it’s 24/7 but dislike the fact there’s only one method of contact, and no way of speaking with someone over the phone.

On the few occasions where I have had a complex issue with my bookmaker, I’ve always rang up and spoke to them over the phone, I think this is the best way to try and solve things. Live chat is great, fast, simple to use, but sometimes, isn’t good enough for the detail.

Now of course, there will be some players who won’t ring up, and many that won’t ever have the need to make a call, live support will be enough.

This is where it comes down to your own personal preferences. Are you the type to call up, if available, are you the type who would like a phone number for peace of mind, if you need it? I am probably both of these, but you may not be.

To end on a positive though, 24/7 coverage is great to see.

Deposits

When it comes to deposit options, I found BetMGM to be quite limited in terms of the number they accept, but the actual options are by far the most commonly used, so should be fine for most, despite a low number on offer.

Three deposit methods are available to players, the use of a bank card, a bank transfer or a PayPal payment.

All three are subject to a minimum deposit amount of £10 per transaction, which is the normal rate for most operators. The maximum deposit amount is £3000 for a bank card, and £10,000 for a bank transfer or PayPal.

At a first glance, this may seem a small list, compared to some other bookmakers, but the ones missed are quite niche, and used by only a few, so having just three shouldn’t affect too many people.

Withdrawals

When you are withdrawing from your account, the same three options are available, withdrawing back to a bank card, a bank transfer or a PayPal payment.

All three are subject to a £10 minimum when you are making the withdrawal. However, they do all have different maximum withdrawal amounts attached.

The biggest is a bank transfer, which has a maximum of £20,000, while a bank card is next with an £8,000 maximum and lastly, the maximum on PayPal is £4,000.

Again, in a similar way to the deposits, this list may not look great when you see the size of it compared to others, but it’s perfectly fine for covering the vast majority of people. What I would add here is that you can make a withdrawal via every deposit method, so you can get money out in the same way as you put it in, meaning everyone always has a way to get funds out.

Conclusion

BetMGM have come onto the UK market with a very promising service for players. There are elements of it that I love, the choice and the promotions for example, while there are a couple of areas that some players may struggle with, depending on experience and type of punter.

But that doesn’t detract from what a good brand this is, they look set to serve the UK market very well, and in typical American fashion, will no doubt tell us all about it.
