How to Bet on the Scottish Premiership
The Scottish Premiership offers plenty of betting opportunities throughout the season, from title and European qualification races to individual fixtures and in-play markets.
If you're getting started with Scottish Premiership betting, here's what to do:
- Pick a market – choose from match result, goals, BTTS, player markets, corners or season-long bets such as the title, top six and relegation.
- Compare bookmaker odds – check prices with several betting sites before placing your wager, as the best value can vary from one operator to another.
- Choose your stake – decide how much you're comfortable risking and only bet what you can afford to lose.
- Place your bet – back a single selection or combine picks from different matches in an accumulator. Bet Builders also let you put several markets from the same fixture together.
- Check before confirming – take a final look at your selections, odds, stake and potential return before submitting the bet.
In-play betting is also available on many Scottish Premiership fixtures, giving you the chance to react to how a match is unfolding.
Goals, red cards, substitutions and shifts in momentum can all move the odds, so live prices can change quickly as the action develops.
Scottish Premiership Betting Markets Explained
Scottish Premiership betting covers far more than simply picking the winner of a fixture, with bookmakers offering markets on individual matches as well as the season-long battles for the title, European places and survival.
Here are some of the key markets you can find across Scottish Premiership betting sites:
- 1X2 Match Betting – Pick the home team, draw or away side to win after 90 minutes plus stoppage time.
- Double Chance – Cover two results with one bet, such as backing the home side or a draw.
- Both Teams to Score – Predict whether both clubs will score during the match, with Yes and No options available.
- Goal Lines – Back the total number of goals to land above or below a set figure, such as 2.5.
- Correct Score – Try to predict the exact final score, with bigger prices generally available for less likely scorelines.
- First Goalscorer – Select the player you think will open the scoring, with prices influenced by their role and expected involvement.
- Anytime Goalscorer – Back a named player to find the net at any point during the game.
- Draw No Bet – Choose a team to win and receive your stake back if the match finishes level.
- Corners – Bet on the number of corners won by either team or the total produced during the match.
- Cards – Predict total cards, individual team card counts or player bookings.
- Bet Builder – Combine several selections from the same Scottish Premiership match into one bet, such as a winner, goals and player market.
- Accumulators – Join selections from multiple fixtures together for a larger potential payout, although every selection must win.
- Title & European Markets – Back clubs to win the Scottish Premiership, qualify for Europe or finish in specific positions.
- Relegation Markets – Predict which sides will finish at the bottom of the table and face relegation or the play-off.
- Top Goalscorer – Pick the player you expect to finish the campaign as the Scottish Premiership's leading scorer.
Scottish Premiership Format & Key Dates
The Scottish Premiership is made up of 12 clubs, with every team playing 38 league matches across the season.
Each side faces the other 11 teams three times in an opening 33-match phase, before the table splits into a top six and a bottom six who then play five further matches against sides in their own half.
Three points are awarded for a victory, one for a draw and none for a defeat. If teams finish level on points, goal difference is used first to separate them, followed by goals scored.
Promotion & Relegation
The bottom side in the Premiership is relegated automatically to the Championship, while the team finishing 11th faces a two-legged play-off against the winner of the Championship's promotion play-offs, deciding the final top-flight place for the following season.
The Split
After 33 games, the Premiership divides into two groups of six. The top six play on for the title and European qualification, while the bottom six fight to avoid the automatic relegation spot and the play-off place.
