Champion Hurdle Odds: Leading Contenders
Here's a run down of the leading Champion Hurdle contenders.
Lossiemouth
The Willie Mullins mare has won the last two Mare's Hurdle contests, but has been switched to the Champion this year.
She's instantly been put in to lead the Champion Hurdle odds, and gets a valuable 7lb allowance.
The biggest question mark is over the distance, can she be top class over two miles?
The New Lion
Nominated for this race after crossing the line when winning the Turners Novices' Hurdle last season, he's down in trip, so should be coming home strongly.
Falling in the Fighting Fifth and winning (just) and International Hurdle, is not the best Champion Hurdle prep, but this will be the first time he gets a race run to suit.
His biggest question mark, like Lossiemouth, is his ability to be top class over this minimum trip.
Brighterdaysahead
Another mare, she got the better of Lossiemouth last time to throw herself into the picture for this.
She's been a mix of outstanding and disappointing, there seems to be no middle ground, but no doubting her talent.
The question mark for Brighterdaysahead is whether she can perform well here, having disappointed in two Cheltenham Festival stars in the past.
Golden Ace
Winner of the 2025 Champion Hurdle in dramatic circumstances, she also landed the Fighting Fifth this season in similar circumstances, jumping when those around her fell.
She's the best jumper, a consistent mare, and has done it all before.
However, the question always remains, is she good or fortunate?
