Next Tottenham Manager Odds: De Zerbi Tops the Betting

Roberto De Zerbi is the early favourite with sports betting sites to succeed Thomas Frank at Tottenham, after the Spurs boss was sacked on Wednesday morning.
Tottenham's defeat on Tuesday night to Newcastle made it eight league games without a win and saw them slip to just five points above the relegation zone, ultimately costing Frank his job halfway through his first season in charge.
De Zerbi, who departed Marseille earlier in the week, has been installed as the early favourite.

Next Tottenham Manager: The Contenders
With Tottenham qualified for the next stages of the Champions League, an immediate appointment would be preferable for the club, you would think, but there are several options in the betting who would be unavailable until the summer.
Let's take a closer look at the candidates.
Roberto De Zerbi
At this stage, you would think he is the standout candidate, and that's not just because he is available.
While Tottenham's form has been truly dismal and they are genuinely in a relegation battle, I don't think it is a coincidence that the board has acted to dismiss Frank just days after De Zerbi left Marseille.
The former Brighton manager won plenty of plaudits for his attacking football and tactical approach to management, and he has been regularly linked to the Manchester United job over the last year or so.
You would think he would jump at the chance to take the Spurs job on, and he is probably about the right sort of level that they can get - someone who isn't quite elite level, but has something to prove and could be a quality coach one day.
Mauricio Pochettino
It is inevitable that Pochettino will be linked to the Tottenham job whenever it becomes available, given the relationship between manager, the club and the fans.
He has admitted he would like one more go at it having arguably been the best manager at the club in the past decade, but the timing doesn't feel right - at least for an immediate appointment.
Pochettino is manager of the USA, who host a home World Cup this summer. Given that that is likely to be a hugely lucrative and high-profile deal, it would make no sense to leave just months before the World Cup.
After that though, who knows? It could make a lot of sense in the summer, but do Spurs need someone for right now?
Xavi
If De Zerbi is the right sort of profile for Spurs, then Xavi is not.
He is the kind of high-profile name the club craves, but along with other candidates like Xabi Alonso or Julian Nagelsmann, he doesn't really feel within their reach.
It remains a mystery as to where - if anywhere - Xavi will end up next, but cutting his teeth in the Premier League with a tricky job like Tottenham? I'm not sure that makes sense.
They will have enough money to throw at him, but it feels as though he is only this high in the betting because he is a name and he is available.
Robbie Keane
I am full of admiration for the way Keane has gone about his managerial career, taking on jobs abroad and giving a pretty good account of himself everywhere he has been.
He's been at Ferencvaros for just over a year with almost a 60% win rate and has them top of the Hungarian league, but it would be a big step up from there with Premier League status at stake.
As a former club captain, it could count in his favour that there has been a move towards hiring club legends to give the team a boost, but it would currently make more sense as an interim appointment, and given Keane is in full-time employment and doing well, that would be a big risk for him to take.
