Although Bolton ended up finishing below Stockport across the league campaign, they were arguably the better team in general play.
Wanderers have two excellent midfielders in all-action Ethan Erhahon and playmaker Josh Sheehan, and they’ve created a high-volume of chances this season.
Tip 1 - Bolton to Win in 90 minutes - 17/10 (10bet)
Steven Schumacher’s side have only lost nine matches all season, and in 11 of the 18 games they drew, they more than doubled the number of shots and shots on targets their opponents took, which suggests wasteful finishing is all that stopped them from staying on the coat-tails of Lincoln and Cardiff.
It could cost them at Wembley, but we know there’s a good chance they’ll perform, whereas we don’t know what level Stockport will be at, after a season of questionable recruitment and inconsistent performances.
Tip 2 - Bolton clean sheet – 12/5 (bet365)
Stockport’s top goalscorer this season has been target man Kyle Wootton who, having often been more of a provider to other attackers, has been the main man this season.
Due to defensive issues, however, Wootton has had to play the last few games in central defence, alongside Ethan Pye, which gives County some aerial presence when protecting their own penalty box but, outside set pieces, loses them some of it when attacking the opposition’s.
The switch is partly a sign of the impact of Adama Sidibeh in a central forward role, after the Gambian signed from St Johnstone in January to bring some searing pace to the front line, which Eoin Toal and Chris Forino will have to deal with – although the latter played superbly in the Semi-Final.
However, the likes of Louie Barry and Isaac Olaofe haven’t replicated their form from previous stints at Edgeley Park since rejoining in winter, so there’s some uncertainty about how strong Stockport will be as an attacking force against a Wanderers side that didn’t concede in either leg of their Semi-Final.
Tip 3 - Amario Cozier-Duberry to score anytime – 10/3 (Sky Bet)
Play-Off Finals tend to be tight and nervy, and they can call for individuals who can conjure up a moment of brilliance out of nothing.
Step forward, Amario Cozier-Duberry. The Brighton loanee will be playing in a higher league next season, regardless of the outcome at Wembley, after a season in which the England U20 star notched 10 assists and scored eight goals.
A quick winger, oozing with flair, Cozier-Duberry has the individual quality to decide the game, and loves to cut inside off that right hand side and create or curl efforts at goal, and he could really light up the stage under the arch.
