Sony Open Betting Tips, Predictions & Odds

The Sony Open in Hawaii raises the curtain on the 2026 PGA Tour season. Waialae Country Club is a familiar venue, though one that may not remain on the calendar much longer, and it puts the focus on accuracy off the tee and precise approach play.
It does not necessarily demand a specific player type, but it does require repeated quality iron shots and the ability to capitalise on scoring chances when they are available.
Winning scores are heavily influenced by conditions, particularly the wind, though the overall challenge remains consistent year to year. Players who can keep the ball in play, manage their distances into the greens and avoid mistakes tend to perform well.

Tip 1: Winner - Aaron Rai (Each-Way)
Seven of the last eight Sony Open in Hawaii winners have gone off at 40/1 or bigger, which is understandable given how unpredictable the first event back after an off-season break can be. With that in mind, most of my attention is on players priced above that mark, though I am happy to make an exception for Aaron Rai at 35/1.
There are two obvious negatives to consider. His previous results at Waialae are uninspiring, and his most recent start came at the Hero World Challenge, where he finished 18th in a 20-man field.
That said, this is a short course that should suit his overall game. His failure to feature in three past appearances can largely be traced back to poor putting weeks. Given how streaky that part of his game can be, I am prepared to take a chance on improvement there and back Raiโs underlying suitability to the test.
Tip 2: Winner - Ryan Gerard (Each-Way)
Ryan Gerard arrives with something most of the field lacks: recent competitive golf. With no full-field PGA Tour action since November, sharpness is at a premium, and Gerardโs runner-up finish in Mauritius stands out as a clear positive. His ball-striking there was excellent, and the numbers backed it up, particularly with his irons and overall tee-to-green play.
He also showed plenty on debut at Waialae last year, sitting inside the top 15 heading into Sunday before slipping back with a quieter final round. Gerard has repeatedly shown he can handle windy, coastal setups, and this course asks questions that align well with his strengths. At the prices, he looks well worth siding with.
Tip 3: Winner - Emiliano Grillo (Each-Way)
Emiliano Grillo has played in this event nine times, with his best finish coming when he tied for seventh in 2024. He is one of the more accurate drivers on the PGA Tour, which naturally puts him on the shortlist at venues where missing fairways carries a clear penalty.
Grillo gained strokes off the tee in each of his first seven starts at Waialae. More recently, there have been encouraging signs on the greens. Across his last six rounds at the course, he has averaged a gain of more than two strokes per round with the putter, suggesting he may finally be finding a workable solution on these surfaces. If that holds, his tee-to-green profile gives him a solid chance of featuring.
Tip 4: Winner - John Parry (Each-Way)
John Parryโs 2025 season ran later than most, with appearances at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and the Mauritius Open in the fortnight before Christmas, finishing T7 and T5 respectively.
Those results were not isolated flashes either. Earlier in the campaign he handled stronger fields well, including a T3 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in October. While Parry has limited experience on the PGA Tour, he arrives having played in tournaments more recently than the majority of his peers.
