Ireland vs Wales Betting Tips, Six Nations Prediction & 18/1 Bet Builder

Ireland and Wales will step out into a boisterous Aviva Stadium tonight with renewed optimism after positive Six Nations showings a fortnight ago, albeit in different circumstances.
Ireland proved there’s plenty of fight left in this generation with a record-breaking 42-21 win over England at Twickenham, and with their final two games at home, Andy Farrell’s men aren’t out of the title race yet.
A bonus-point victory over Wales would lift them to within a point of leaders France and the expectation from betting sites is for Ireland to win with something to spare.
Even in their heyday, Wales have rarely done well in Dublin and arrive riding a 14-game losing streak in the Six Nations.
However, they arguably produced their best showing since Steve Tandy took charge when losing 26-23 to Scotland in round 3. The test now is whether they can back that performance up and at least ask some questions of Ireland.
Ireland vs Wales Tips
Here are three betting tips for tonight’s game, including a bet builder that returns at 18/1.
Tip 1: Under 56.5 Points
Ireland’s attack clicked into gear at Twickenham, with Farrell getting his game plan spot on and Jamison Gibson-Park pulling the strings.
Farrell has largely stuck with the same backline that exposed England and they will look to stretch the worst defence in the Six Nations, one that has conceded 48 points to England and 54 to France.
The oddsmakers have set the handicap at 27 points in anticipation of a big Ireland win. However, Ireland have only once beaten Wales by a margin of that size in Dublin in the history of the Six Nations, with the majority of meetings being relatively low-scoring.
Only one of the last 10 Six Nations games on Irish soil has cracked the 50-point mark, and a look at the average total points for both sides in these championships suggests bettors might be wise to side with the under on rugby betting sites.
Ireland’s games have averaged 48 points, while Wales' matches sit just shy of the total for this game at 56.
Ireland’s attack must prove the England thrashing wasn’t a one-off, and matching those heights again will be tough.
As for the Welsh attack, that’s hampered by a lack of size and the absence of fly-half Sam Costelow.
He was excellent against Scotland and Wales are likely to struggle without his ingenuity against a physical Ireland side.
Wales have scored seven, seven and nine points on the last three trips to the Aviva Stadium. A similar attacking showing should push the total under.
Tip 2: Robert Baloucoune to score two or more tries
Ireland should be able to hurt Wales out wide, where they’ve looked vulnerable when stretched.
Opposition wingers have had plenty of success against Wales in the Six Nations to date, with Henry Arundell bagging a first-half hat-trick for England and France's Theo Attissogbe helping himself to a brace.
Darcy Graham and Kyle Steyn both went over for Scotland in round three and the in-form Robert Baloucoune may continue the trend for Ireland.
After waiting years for his chance in a green shirt, Baloucoune has seized his opportunity with tries in the wins over Italy and England.
Baloucoune is a best-price of 5/9 to score anytime against Wales, but having scored multiple tries in the same game for club side Ulster twice already this season, the bigger price on him scoring two or more under the Aviva lights is tempting.
Tip 3: Wales +13.5 1st half handicap, under 6.5 Ireland tries & Rhys Carre anytime tryscorer
Ireland have been slow out of the blocks at home recently, trailing at the break in five of the last eight games at the Aviva, while they didn’t lead by more than seven points in the other three games.
We may see the best of Wales early on and they could still be within touching distance when the two teams head to the sheds at the break.
Robert Baloucoune may be set for a big evening against Wales, but it's difficult to see where all the other scores are going to come from if Ireland are to score seven or more tries.
Ireland has never scored more than six tries against Wales at home in the Six Nations, so the under is backed with some confidence for leg two of the bet builder.
The swing for the fences is the selection of Rhys Carre as an anytime tryscorer. The Saracens prop is hardly prolific, but he's been a huge asset for Wales with the ball in hand and has scored in each of the last two Six Nations games.
Expect him to be used as the battering ram again if Wales get close to the tryline.
