Although Roulette is a simple game to understand, if you want to improve your results and play with confidence, it's important to learn the basics first.

As the saying goes, practice makes perfect - so try the game in demo mode before risking real money.

Many online casinos offer free-play roulette tables, allowing you to build confidence before stepping up to real cash play.

If you're playing online, you'll notice several different versions of Roulette available.

For simplicity, here at Free Bets, we'll focus on the two main formats you'll also find in land-based casinos - European (French) Roulette and American Roulette.

European Roulette is the traditional version most players recognise.

The wheel features numbers 1–36 plus a single zero (0), and it's this layout that shapes the betting options and house edge.

American Roulette is similar, but with one key difference - an additional double zero (00) on both the wheel and the table.

This extra pocket increases the house edge, giving the casino a slightly bigger advantage.

We'll cover betting options in detail elsewhere, but in short, you can wager on single numbers, groups of numbers, colours, odd or even, or even zero - as long as your stake falls within the table limits.

Before each spin, players place their bets.

You might bet a single number for a higher payout, or choose outside bets like Red/Black or Odd/Even for steadier returns.

The objective is straightforward: correctly predict where the ball will land, whether that's a specific number, a colour, or a number grouping.

Payouts depend on the bet you place.

As you gain experience, you may wonder if there's a foolproof system to beat Roulette.

Countless strategies have been tried over the years, but the reality remains the same - while betting systems can shape how you manage your money, you can't control the outcome of a spin.

Roulette is ultimately a game of chance, and luck always plays its part.

At Free Bets we have put together a selection of well known systems for you to study and you can read about roulette strategies here.
