Despite a sluggish opening 45 minutes against Senegal in their World Cup opener, France eventually flexed their quality to run out 3-1 winners and begin a seventh consecutive major tournament with victory.
The headline act was captain Kylian Mbappe, whose brace took him to 58 international goals and saw him surpass Les Bleus' all-time scoring record. Manager Didier Deschamps will now target qualification for the knockout stages with a game to spare, although recent results offer a note of caution after France failed to score in each of their last two meetings with Asian opposition.
